Biography

ABOUT RICHARD GILEWITZ

"I actually wanted to be a drummer. Five minutes after my folks heard that news, they bought me a guitar. I tried flat-picking, but the pick kept falling in the hole. At one point I thought about playing a harmonica, so I blew on that for about a month. Then a real harmonica player saw me in action and said, 'Did you know if you breathe in you get all the other notes? You… Read more in Amazon's Richard Gilewitz Store

Editorial Reviews

About the Artist

RICHARD GILEWITZ

Known for his command of the 6 and 12-string guitar, an offbeat sense of humor and amazing tales from the road, this international fingerstyle guitarist continues to delight audiences at every turn. Composing and performing kaleidoscopic mixtures of complex and energetic instrumental selections for the guitar, Richard Gilewitz forges a new voice to embrace the expanse of his influences, captivating crowds with his virtuoso chops and valuable insights.

From New Zealand, to the borders of Canada, to Ireland and the UK, Richard incorporates his own personality and orchestration into a sound tunnel of timeless musical history. He delivers an invitation to travel on a journey filled with colorful imagery of samples from European, Contemporary, and Spanish Classical works to the Traditional Folk, Blues and American Primitive eras.

States the May/June 2002 issue of Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine, "To say Richard Gilewitz has a unique personality would be an understatement. His quick wit and twisted sense of humor has made him an entertainer as well as a fine guitarist. He interacts with his audience as he puts it; ‘the whole room is in concert.’ Whether it’s a workshop or concert, Richard leaves his audience with a unique experience."

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite fingerstyle musicians, July 7, 2010
This review is from: Thumbsing (Audio CD)
You can't go wrong with anything Richard Gilewitz has recorded. The guitarist's mastery of the music and his 6 and 12 string guitars is beyond comprehension. If a Gilewitz show is within your reach don't miss the opportunity to see him and if you are a guitarist make sure you get a seat close to the front. This CD contains his own compositions which are always my favorites and others from composers he admires. Attending one of his workshops is both enlightening and enjoyable.
