Book Description

December 1993
Heaven is stirring with extraordinary warnings and graces. Even the most lethargic of Christians know something is afoot. Lately, stories in Life, Time and Newsweek have covered the flood of heavenly phenomena: visions of The Blessed Mother, heavenly messages and warnings, miraculous healings, weeping statues and icons. There is no longer any excuse for someone to plead ignorance. Something is definitely up. Precisely "what" is up is the subject of this book. If the visionaries in this book prove correct, it is the most amazing and important subject ever written about.

This book does what few books on Marian apparitions have done. It provides a comprehensive overview of the phenomena - from Our Lady's appearances in Guadeloupe, Mexico, in 1531, to her flood of visits around the world today. The book also analyzes the many apparitions, searching for a common theme to the messages. It finds one.

It is a theme enunciated by such diverse and unlikely persons as housewives in Ireland and Arizona; teenagers and young people in Ecuador, Italy, Medjugorje, and Garabandal; a converted pagan in Africa; a political prisoner in Ukraine; a factory foreman in Canada; and a disabled laborer in New Jersey. Through visionaries separated from each other by thousands of miles, scores of different languages, and in some cases hundreds of years, the Blessed Mother speaks with one voice.

The world, she warns, increasingly has given itself to sin and debauchery. The time of God's Justice is at hand. Signs and wonders increasing in power and frequency will be given to us, emphasizing the urgency of the need for man to return to God. These are acts of God's ultimate mercy. These calls from God will culminate in what seers call the Warning, a revelation to man that will reveal the state of every single soul. One of Satan's greatest weapons is ignorance. The Warning will allow one to actually understand how God sees the state of his or her soul. Following the Warning will be what visionaries call the Great Miracle - an event that will somehow manifest the power of God more publicly and visibly than ever before. Both of these events will allow mankind to return to God.

Following these events will be the final act of God's Justice. Those who refuse to convert will be dealt with by the only means left - a tremendous Chastisement that will purify the earth.

The messages are so powerful, so extravagant in their promise and warning, that one might be inclined to dismiss them as fantasy or science fiction. Indeed, serious Catholics must be very cautious and prayerfully discerning when investigating reports of such phenomena. It is true that no Catholic need commit himself to any apparition or message. In fact, the authors emphasize that even with "church approved" apparitions, those who choose to believe in them do so only with human faith. The messages are not new. They call us back to the essential message of the gospel: prayer, fasting, conversion, sacrifice, penance, joyful service to our neighbor and reverent worship of God.

For those of us who have tarried at God's call, those who have dallied in the world and put off conversion, the messages and events compiled in this book will serve as a wake-up call. The world is a dangerous place. Time is short, and the stakes are high. Through and unprecedented outpouring of graces and apparitions, God is calling us back to Himself, shouting at us to listen, humbling Himself to tug on our sleeves - desperately trying to get our attention before the Thunder of His Justice strikes.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Authors Maureen and Ted Flynn want to make one thing perfectly clear: They are not predicting the end of the world. This husband and wife writing team say their book The Thunder of Justice is, in fact, a documentation of "the love and mercy God has for us." The Flynns have compiled messages, warnings and predictions from reported apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. Some of the apparitions have been approved by the Vatican, some have been granted limited approval by the local Church, and some are still under investigation. Despite the direness of the events depicted in the book, Maureen says she "particularly enjoyed writing the book - it has given me a deep sense of joy." They stress that the book is not a timetable or prediction of the second coming of Jesus Christ or the end of the world. IT is merely a call to return to God and the sacraments. It is, they say, an uplifting book. -- by Richard Szczepanowski, "Thunder of Justice echoes with the sound of God's love and mercy", Catholic Standard, Binghampton, NY, February 3, 1994

Modern Protestantism has long been awash in ominous predictions about the "end times," from warnings about the numeric combination 666 to speculations about the identity of the Antichrist. Now Roman Catholics are adding their voices to the visionary choir through a host of Marian apparitions chronicled in "The Thunder of Justice", a self-published book by a Sterling, Va., couple that has quickly become a Catholic best seller. Mr. Flynn said he thinks the Marian messages are similar to those being advanced by Protestant eschatologists, although they use different language. "Mary speaks about the mark on the hand, wrist, forehead, the beast of Reelation, about 666," he said. "She is ripping open the Book of Revelation and teaching Catholics about it. It's extraordinary material. People would be stunned by the degree of detail if they would care to look at it. This is next year's news." -- by Judy Tarjanyi, "Virginia couple spread word about visions of Mary", The Washington Times, November 19,1994. A13

From the Author

"The Thunder of Justice" is a mini encyclopedia of messages from the Blessed Virgin Mary to the world at the major apparition sites in history. The book was over five years in the making with the authors visiting many of the sites they wrote about. The book shows where the world has been - using history as our teacher, where it is presently, and where the world is headed in the words of heaven. The basis of the entire book is that heaven communicates with its people and uses people and circumstances to speak. God never abandons his people. Highlights are the messages of Guadalupe, Lasalette, Fatima, Lourdes, Garabandal, Akita, Father Stefano Gobbi, and Medjugorje are the primary focus of the material presented. Millions journey to these sites on an annual basis and receive spiritual graces. For those sites that are approved in the Church, it is a non-arguable fact on their authenticity. The messages are a sign post to the future and point man to the truth of the ages. The messages are in no way political or philosophical - they are about love, the unfathomable love of a mother for her children in what is a deep mystery. It is about the Divine Mercy that God the Father has for all mankind and the love for those unwilling to listen. The premise of the book is quite simple: as long as sin exists where there is no repentance, God's blessings do not shower that individual or nations which persists in that sin. The sin of abortion and homosexuality are particularly heinous in the sight of God as it has been told to the prophets. This sin is not in any way unforgivable, but it is a very callous generation that sees nothing wrong and generally accepts it. This shows how far we have drifted from the eternal truths of heaven in our age. The great majority of people choose not to follow the principles of Scripture. God is a God of love, mercy, and justice. For those not listening and too absorbed in day to day activities there is a price to pay if the pleas of heaven are ignored. Noah, Lot and his family, Elijah, Jonah, Esther, Gideon, Isaiah, are an example how God will work with small numbers. All of us will live tomorrow with the decisions we make today, whether we like it or not. As a result of the hard-heartedness of man's ways today, the major sites in the history of the Roman Catholic Church point to a "Divine spanking." Chastisements, weather anomalies, war, civil decay, immorality and other phenomena point to heaven's intervention to get us to listen. In particular, the messages of Akita, Japan, point to severe hardship for the world unless the world changes. Garabandal, Spain, where the Blessed Mother appeared over 2000 times to four young girls, warns of events that compliment and augment other sites. It speaks of a WARNING to come to the world that will show every person on earth the state of his or her soul as God sees it. It will be a judgement in miniature. All motion in the world will stop, no planes will fly, and we will know that the event is spiritual. We will not be able to explain it in human terms. The general feeling from those following these events is that it can not be far off. Soon and shortly are words the people use frequently to describe a time frame. Saint Don Bosco promised the reign of the Two Hearts by the year 2000. It should be noted that this event is pre announced much like the solar miracle of Fatima. Over 70,000 witnessed that event in 1917 in Portugal. The WARNING is of the same category, except it is much greater in scope as every person in the world will feel its affects. In no more than one year from the WARNING, a GREAT MIRACLE will take place. It will take place above the "9 pines" of Garabandal, on a Thursday evening at 8:30pm, between the months of March, April, or May. Those physically at the site will all be healed. This is the promise. Father Gobbi of Italy speaks of such an event without naming the event saying, "what will come to pass is something so very great it will exceed anything that has taken place since the beginning of the world." All of the major sites seem to point to the events happening rapidly one after another. If a person has been unaware of what is happening they will greatly struggle, as economic and physical calamities strike the world. The world is going through a purification that will intensify as time increases. The book addresses the next Pope, an Anti-Pope, the AntiChrist, the new world order, prophecies through hundreds of years that point to major events to come, including the words of Church Fathers, and why the world will change in the near future. The West worships on the altar of materialism and when that god is smashed, people will panic and accept nearly anything that is proposed---from anyone.

For those seeking answers, the information is provided in great detail. Heaven in its faithfulness gives us all we need to know to live in contentment and peace, love and joy. In the words of heaven, we point to the way the Trinity has ordained--- for our purpose in life is to know, love, and serve God. All the authors have done is play the scribe. It was truly a life changing event to see the rich vein of treasure we never knew existed. What a joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life., November 3, 1999

As a sort of lukewarm Catholic for many years, I finally had my eyes opened to all of my failings when I read this book. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to every Catholic I know. Unfortunately, it does have the potential to offend if it isn't taken in the correct light. I too have purchased multiple copies to give away to the people I care about.

While the encouragement this book provides to return to the sacraments and pray the rosary daily is something I'd never argue with, I was disappointed in the book nonetheless. First of all, they badly needed an editor - the same material is presented over and over, and they slip into a "National Enquirer" style that I found annoying. More importantly, "Thunder" relies far too heavily on unapproved private prophecy, and fails to adequately defend its position in light of Scripture and Tradition. For a far better work on the same subject, read Desmond Birch's "Trial, Tribulation, and Triumph". It's meticulously researched and relies on approved private prophecy only as an ancillary source.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Synthesis of Messages from Mary & the Saints, August 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Thunder of Justice: The Warning, the Miracle, the Chastisement, the Era of Peace (Paperback)
One of the most frightening and, paradoxically, comforting books I've ever read. The messages, whether from Mary, Jesus, Visionaries or the Saints, are skillfully weaved around the four major themes of the book for ultimate and devastating effect. I believe it would be impossible to delve into these pages without a deep sense of unease, but maybe even more hope.

Read at your own risk: but the risk is greater should you choose not to read.
