4.0 out of 5 stars Not so terrible if you're a fan of the newer series February 19, 2014
I really enjoyed the newer ThunderCats series, and I was pretty excited when I heard this game was being released...but then I read nothing but bad things about it and even watched some game-play videos that made me pass on it at 30 bucks. But it's been a couple years now, and this game frequently pops up for under 10 I figured I'd give it a shot. Worst case scenario, it fills in a small spot on my ThunderCats shelf. Well, it's not nearly as bad as I'd anticipated. I just assumed it was going to be level after level of fighting nothing but lizard men with no boss battles or anything. That's not the case at all. I haven't progressed the game very far, and I've already had 4 decent boss battles, and only one level of battling lizard men. Another complaint that I saw a lot was about the summoning. Sure, it would have been neat if you could pick which characters you wanted to play, but the summons aren't totally generic. For example, you summon WilyKit and Kat if you need healing items. One thing that I certainly cannot argue is that this game really does feel and look like a GBA game...but that can be said about a lot of DS releases as many games were released for both systems with very few differences. The touch screen really adds nothing to the game...aside from being able to see pics of the other cats at all times.

I suppose I went into this game expecting the worst, so it was actually a pleasant surprise. Is it flawed? Absolutely! Is it breaking any new ground and destined to be a classic? Absolutely not...but if you're a ThunderCats fan, it's a decent little handheld side scrolling action game that follows the plot of the newer series pretty well. It's worth ten bucks. It's probably more of a 3 1/2 than a 4, but I'll give it a bit of a boost 'cause it surprised me.
