5.0 out of 5 stars Military Metal, July 17, 2005
This review is from: Thunderball (Audio CD)
This is album from Udo is just simply awesome.

The first day i got this, i ended up playing it from beginning to end four times in that one day. This has got to be one of the best things Udo has done yet, easily comparable and as great as his earlier albums like 'Animal House' and 'Timebomb' in classic U.D.O. fashion. I don't know why there were some people that didn't like this? i started out as a Accept fan and moved on up to his work in U.D.O., i have been very impressed all the way through. This album has that "military" feel all through out it, songs like "Pull the Trigger" and "The Bullett and the Bomb" have very gung-ho lyrics to them to go along with their sonic brutality. Udo's vocals are the harshest sounding i'v heard on this then anything else he's done, and that includes Accept. The Tank has never been the best singer per se, but his pipes have always matched the devastation going on around him, and that is what made him so F**king awesome and enabled him to maintain a career in heavy metal music for over 20 years. On 'Thunderball', Udo has out-done himself, his "voice" is the musical equivelent of a chainsaw cutting into chalkboard. The album also has some nice sedate and melodic moments, "Land of the Midnight Sun" and "Blind Eyes" are my favorite slow songs and are very nice.

Then there is the song "Train Ride In Russia", which is one of the coolest songs ever written. The russian backing vocals and acordians were a treat. The song is a tribute to all of the russian fans the Udo has made over the years.

This should have won album of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars U.D.O Just keeps Rollin like a Thunderball, May 17, 2004

These guys are something else. i bought the last release "Man and Machine" and i didnt think theyd be able to top that album. but theyve done it with "Thunderball". An all out Metal masterpiece and not your typical album, from the Russian folk inspired "trainride to Russia" to the title track and power thrasher "Thunderball", U.D.O have tried a bit of experimentation on this one, and it WORKS. Whether your an old Accept fan or a U.D.O fan. this one is worth the price and is a must for the serious metal collection. Up the Irons and keep it metal!!

these guys have returned to past glory with this album. i am writing this review a bit late. mission no.X and 24-7 have already been released, but i feel the years previous album Thunderball is a superior release. Not to get too specific, but all the tracks on this one are much more memorable and you will find yourself playing the album from start to finish as opposed to Mission where tracks are hit and miss. if You are new to U.D.O. this is a great starting point to get into some awesome metal.....

5.0 out of 5 stars THUNDERBALL is the heaviest album udo has done yet, November 19, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Thunderball (Audio CD)
This is even heavier then anything that AccepT has done, i was blown away by the power of this album! i was a BIG AccepT fan but had never got the chance to check out udo dirkshneiders solo project U.D.O. so i decided to pick up ThunderBall, and christ, it's the heaviest freaking thing i have listened to in my life. and i say that after years of listening to metal like AccepT,iron madien, judas preist, slayer, you name it. to think that Mr. dirkshneider is in his early 60's now (i think he's 63) and he's making music this BRUTAL just boggles the mind. this is proof that real metal is not dead, you just might have to go to europe to see bands like U.D.O. play shows though, because i have never seen these guys play in america as of lately."thunderball" "fistful of anger" "hell bites back" "the arbiter" ect are all AccepT inspired metal tunes, you would swear that they got back together and made this album. the song "train ride in russia" is funny as hell! i love it, it should win a grammy! there is singing in russian on this one! as well as the powerful "land of the midnight sun" which is differant then most of udo's songs but is non the less awesome. it's been 20 years after "Balls to the Wall" came out and udo is still kicking major @$$! udo is the real metal god,not like a certain Mr. ozzy osbourne who has become a t.v. sellout, or metallica who have become corprate rock, i'm so glad that there is a true metal warrior out there fighting for us, his name is UDO DIRKSHNEIDER!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic new album by UDO, September 7, 2005
This review is from: Thunderball (Audio CD)
Think about a guy who jknows his craft: aggressive, melodic, entusiasthic teutonic heavy metal. Like wine, UDO gets better with the passing of time. It's simply amazing.

THUNDERBALL has a lot of metal cliches and old tricks, but they work with perfection, backed by solid production and very good musicians. It's an enjoyable album from the first listen, sure about that!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good old fashioned heavy metal, February 19, 2008
This review is from: Thunderball (Audio CD)
For those who think that old school heavy metal is dead, this CD is for you. Heavy riffs, guitar solos and Udo's distinctive voice make this CD a must have. If you liked Accept, you'll definitely love Udo.
