Book Description

December 1993 How's the Weather
Examines what happens in a thunderstorm and how lightning is formed and provides information on the study of lightning, safety measures, and the damage it can cause.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-7-This book offers a tremendous amount of information on a high-interest topic in an appealing format. Kahl describes the conditions under which thunderstorms develop, how lightning travels through the sky, what happens when it strikes, and how scientists study it. He provides interesting examples of damage caused by lightning to property and people and gives safety tips. Material is clearly presented in an authoritative, interesting way. Captioned full-color photographs, including some dramatic shots, extend the text. Instructions for photographing lightning are included. Thunderbolt will be a useful title for reports and for general reading. Stephen P. Kramer's Lightning (Carolrhoda, 1991) covers the same ground.
