5.0 out of 5 stars Recapping the P-47's Record in the ETO & MTO!, September 29, 2008
This review is from: Thunderbolt: The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt in the European Theater - Aircraft Specials series (6076) (Paperback)
The Republic P-47 ran up a ETO/MTO combat record second to none. Ernie McDowell and Squadron/Signal offer up this nicely done text and photo summary of the Jug in action over Europe and the Med.

Reflecting the P-47's use by the 8th, 9th, 12th and 15th Air Forces and misc. Allied units, McDowell's book offers an operator-by-operator summary of the Jug-equipped fighter groups in each. The 12th AF listing, for example, includes the 27th, 57th 79th, 86th, 324th and 350th FGs. The accompanying group histories, which are surprisingly detailed, range in length from 1/2-page to a full page.

The book is bursting at the seams with illustrations, over 120 black & white and 13 color snaps along with eight pages of Don Greer profiles. Since so many different units flew the Jug, Greer gives the reader an especially appealing smorgasbord of P-47 markings. And no one does NM aircraft better than Greer.

As a well-illustrated, informative overview of the P-47 in ETO/MTO service, McDowell's book gets five stars. All in all, it's quite a pleasing package. Recommended.
