Bootleg - this is NOT official, BEWARE!,
By Dynamo of Eternia (Earth) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thundercats - A New Beginning
This is a bootleg DVD. It is likely transfered from a 20 year old VHS tape or something. If you are looking for a full quality, official version of Thundercats, then do Not buy this, because it is not what you are looking for.
***EDIT*** This addition to my review is in response to the recent review by Stan Donte: Whether or not this DVD is a bootleg is yet to be determined. The product description was not specific enough in anyway to prove this as not being a bootleg. The word "import" does not prove this one way or the other. If this is a DVD from region 2 or 4, as Stan Donte suggests (which I don't know where he got that info from, since I still don't see that info listed anywhere in the description), it would not just magically play in any region 1 DVD player. The whole point of region coding is so that a DVD from 1 region is not able to be played in a DVD player from another region. If this is "factory sealed" - I would figure is come from a factory that makes knock-off items (I don't know for sure, but I'm basing this on what I can see here). This still does not appear to be an officially licensed product, and if it was made for other regions (i.e. 2 and 4), then someone had to copy them and change the format slightly for it to work in a region 1 DVD player. Perhaps DVD-Rs weren't used if this is from some kind of a factory that produces these kinds of things. Even if this is not transfered from a VHS tape as I suggested the possbility of earlier, it still raises questions. Still not convinced? Well, take a good look at the packaging, for example. The picture of the characters is very stretched out and skewed. The Thundercats logo is very shotty. Based on its appearance, it looks as if someone either created it using a program like Photostop, or badly cut it out from some other Thundercats image using Photoshop. The white that usually surrounds the letters is missing. Plus, there is no trademark symbol of any kind by the title, which is something that any official DVD (regardless of what region it is from) should have. The "DVD" logo is all sckewed and streched out. This DVD is listed as "Thundercats - A New Beginning" here on Amazon, but in no way are the words "A New Beginning" listed on the DVD box. There isn't even a volume number or anything. Maybe I am wrong about this being a knock off, but nothing in the product description or image proves anything. And to address something that Stan Donte said, implying that I "might" be someone who sells bootlegs on ebay, I am not. I've never sold anything on ebay, actually, and I've only bought a few things. I happen to be a member of a rather popular website that fans of He-man and She-ra go to, and this DVD along with a similar knock-off looking She-ra one was brought to the attention of many members, including myself. We too are fans of these old 80s cartoons, and we want buyers to know what they are likely getting into. If this DVD, the She-ra DVD, and others like is are actually official and not knock-off products, then some kind of proof would be nice, since the image and product description are not nearly enough to prove this to be the case.

Bootleg-Don't Buy!,
This review is from: Thundercats - A New Beginning
This disc is NOT an official release. It is an illegal bootleg. Want Thundercats? Wait for the official Warner Brothers box set that's due this year and don't waste your cash on this imitation.

I bought this and while it was shrinkwrapped it WAS NOT factory sealed. It is infact a bootleg, aq very good bootleg, anyone these days can go and use ANY of the DVD authoring software and Photoshop and create there own DVDs that look just as good as store boughten stuff, it all depends on the source of the video. But this along with She-Ra and many others here on Amazon.com are bootlegs Warner Borthers is the only company releasing Thundercats, BCI is the only company releasing He-man and She-Ra DVDs. Please save your money. Go to websites like: http://www.tvshowsonDVD.com and do a search beofre you buy your fav cartoon, make sure it has a real release they will have the news there first.

Buyer Beware!,
This review is from: Thundercats - A New Beginning
Buyer Beware! This is an illegal bootleg copy of the Thundercats cartoon. There has been no official Region 1 release of Thundercats in the United States.
There is a real official release of this cartoon scheduled for release later this year. Don't bother with the bootleg.

Thundercats, This is what a cartoon should be, intriguing relationships, acient history, science, ethics and the best spaceship battle i've ever seen in a cartoon like this. I had forgotten that the lead charecter was nothing but an overgrown boy and Mumm-Ra knew of the sword of omens for a thousand years. The plot was so well written as were all the characters.
Only one thing bothered me, Lion-O's summoning of the Thundercats every 20 minutes was a bit much. There were a few situation he could have handled on his own, but i guess when your 7 and you only see this every 24 hours, then it must be enjoyable to see all the Thundercats rescue their "fearless leader." Any person who was a child of the 80's, this is a must have!

Who doesn't love the Thundercats,
This review is from: Thundercats - A New Beginning
I ordered this for my boyfriend and he got more then he expected. We didn't know there was more than one episode so getting five made it way better. We were both quite impressed with the DVD.

Unbiased Review-I got my $$'s Worth,
By Stan Donte (Saratoga, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thundercats - A New Beginning
This was yet another DVD I purchased during my "relive my childhood" binge. Like an earlier review I made, this is NOT a US release. It would seem silly that I would have to mention that but some people seem to be unable to read the fine print (sheesh). This seems to be an international dvd release (sold overseas I assume-->the region 2 & 4 are a dead giveaway). Unlike the previous reviewers who did not bother to look at the item's description which clearly states Region 1 "import," I can assure you that this dvd is actually factory produced. I mean I was a little skeptical after purchasing some Thundercats DVD sets on Ebay, but this dvd is actually authentic...NOT a dvdr.
As for the dvd itself, the video quality was suprisingly good for a show this old. I'm not sure why one reviewer assesed the quality to be from a old VHS tape?? Let me tell ya, that's not the case-the quality is superb for an old show. Perhaps some of the reviewers were sellers on eBay that sold me "dodgy" sets? Hmm...it makes me wonder. Anyway, the dvd contains a main menu that has access to an animated episode selection screen and a bonus screen. The bonus primarily consists of short bios of a few of the Cats. Yea, not much for bonuses, but hey, the quality is good. All in all, the dvd was great. If you are unwilling to wait for a US release then I would definitely recommend this DVD to hold you over until the US release comes out.

Nice DVD,

Finally, Thundercats is released on dvd. After being one of the most popular cartoons of the 80s one would think that this would have happened years ago. Sure it took awhile, but it's worth it. Onto the dvd, it features the beginning 5 episodes of the Thundercats story. The extras in the dvd are a little lacking, but they can be overlooked for the good film to dvd transfer. The colors are vibrant and don't seem dated for a show this old. Overall this dvd was a welcome suprise. My only gripe with the dvd is that it only featured 5 episodes...but beggars can't be choosers :) I also think this is an international release as the the box states several other viewing regions.

A Very Good Import,
This review is from: Thundercats - A New Beginning
This Thundercats DVD is definitely a good DVD. Given the other regions listed on the DVD (1,2 & 4), I knew it was an import. Besides that, it is also mentioned in the description of the DVD as well. The DVD has the 1st 5 episodes of the show and the quality is definitely there. Hopefully more volumes will follow?? *hoping* If you have been looking to add some good old nostalgia to your DVD collection, this should be included on your shelf.

I just recently bought this DVD for my boyfriend and he just loves it to death. Who knew a cartoon about "cat-people" would make a 25yr old grown man cry with joy...
