I grew watching the original series, which can never be replaced, but the new ThunderCats has surpassed all my expectations for a remake. It has great writing, a talented voice-cast, and colorful animation. Unlike the original that mostly focused on Lion-O, the new incarnation has allowed episodes to focus on the other characters, giving them more depth.
I enjoyed watching this two discs set. My favorite episodes from Book three would have to be the two-part finale "What Lies Above." Unfortunately, the season ended in a cliffhanger and the Cartoon Network didn't order a second season. The only hope for a second season lies in the powers of Warner Bros., who own the series.
The episodes on Book 3 are:
Ep. 17 - Native Son
Ep. 18 - Survival of the Fittest
Ep. 19 - The Pit
Ep. 20 - Curse of Ratilla
Ep. 21 - Birth of the Blades
Ep. 22 - The Forever Bag
Ep. 23 - Recipe for Disaster
Ep. 24 - The Soul Sever
Ep. 25 - What Lies Above (Part One)
Ep. 26 - What Lies Above (Part Two)
Season 2 please...pronto.
It doesn't disappoint. The story line is far different than the original series, and it's "darker" than the original. But it still focuses on the core aspects of the ThunderCat philosophies of truth, honor, and loyalty. They spend time tackling all kinds of issues from racism, to slavery, to the value of friendship, and plenty more.
May not be suitable for really young kids. I loaned my set to a colleague, and he said his 6 year old didn't like some of the more violent sequences...particularly where someone was killed (which never happened in the original series).
It has some slow patches at stages through the episodes but does leave you wanting to find out what happens next. If you like the origional series this may be a step up in the style it is presented in. Look out for some twists you never saw coming but I won't tell. You will have to find out for yourself. The next book will most likely be the start of season 2 but this is only an asumption & will in my opion be worth getting if it runs in the same style as the first.I would like to give it 3 & a half stars but don't get that option & is only because it would be better if season 1 came as a set not as 3 sets of one season..
Thundercats Season 1 Book 3
The series is a fresh look at a classic from my childhood. If you're a fan of the original, there is enough loyalty to the characters and plot-line of the first series to keep you happy, while the updates are all in well-needed areas (improved animation, sound, acting...) They even take away Snarf's ability to talk, rendering him a super-smart catlike creature. BRAVO!

An interesting take on the older series, at times it seems a bit childish, though it is a cartoon, but it does bring new insights that were not given before, all in all a pleasant... Read morePublished 16 months ago by Akil
