Real ... Solid Melodic Rock/Metal,
By
This review is from: Thunderdome (Audio CD)
Oh how I love discovering new bands.New to me at least. This bands been around for ten years or so.I'd heard of them but never checked 'em out.My mistake.I'd heard good things about this band, and I guess Andi Derris of Helloween was the original singer. But the guy on this one,and the last few or more releases, is named David Readman. And he's got a great voice! Very clear and powerful.Sounds to me like a much stronger Jani Lane of Warrant. This is some great music that I'm sure most people,at least in the USA,don't even know exists anymore.Just great hook ladened hard rock. These dudes are from Germany and are pretty big there and elsewhere. You could compare this to Tesla,Dokken,Pretty Maids,Harem Scarem,Warrant and Steelhouse Lane. All bands I really dig. Thunderdome is a well produced power house album.Something like this released in 1989 would've been huge.Right up there with the Whitesnakes and Skid Rows. Really not a bad track on this one.But my favorites are Thunderdome,Carnaby Road,Retro Lullaby,As Deep As I Am and the excellent power ballad That Was Yesterday.( Not the Foreigner Track) If you're a fan of any of the bands I've mentioned above and are in need of some decent new music, grab this. You won't be sorry.. ... You can never get too much of a good thing.

The best of the Readman era....,
By
This review is from: Thunderdome (Audio CD)
First off, I'm more of an Andi Deris/Helloween fan. But I have a few of the David Readman era PC 69 cds (Thunderdome, Electrified, Endangered). This one seems to have stronger songs, and stands out of those. Electrified is also solid, while Endangered seem a bit more filler. The ever stable line up of Dennis Ward(bass), Alfred Koffler(guitar), and Kosta Zafiriou(drums), with keyboardist Guenter Werno on a couple of tracks. The title track is quite good, and was stuck in my head a while. Very catchy.

Some history....My first experience of Pink Cream 69 was a song called Break The Silence back in 1998 when it was featured on a taster cd on the front of a metal magazine.
As soon as the song had finished assaulting my ears with what I can only describe as a full on melodic whipping just teetering on the edge of heavy metal but not quite stepping over the line, I decided I absolutely must own the cd which it was taken from. I found it, it was called Electrified and it does exactly that to you as you listen. I don't have any of their earlier cds but I have every one released after then including Sonic Dynamite, Endangered, Thunderdome (this one that I'm reviewing) and the follow up to that called In10sity. There really isn't much for me to say about this cd or the band except, if you can find their music, buy it!! Forgive me for swearing but they are f**king awesome, the hooks, the riffs, the solos, the vocals, the production, everything about them screams quality, perfection and class. I don't know of a better band in this genre. They just get better and better and I have no idea how because they started off bloody brilliant. Amongst the ranks they have Denis Ward, the american born bass player, major songwriter for the band and not only does he produce their music he's renowned as one of the best producers in the business anyway. Then you have Mr David Readman born in the UK and their 2nd vocalist after the first one left to join Helloween, David is also a major songwriter for PC69 and also has his own band on the side and has been voted by the industry as the 2nd best vocalist in rock/metal behind D.C. Cooper of Royal Hunt. So when I say this band is good, I mean it. You will not be dissapointed by this disc or any other PC69 disc. Find it, buy it, rock out and love it.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Pink Cream 69 is the absolute best melodic hard rock band in the world right now. I know that's a bold statement, but I believe it more and more every time PC69 releases a new album.
Thunderdome is the band's latest album, and it is superb. It follows very closely along the same lines as Electrified and Sonic Dynamite. It's very heavy, bordering on being a metal album, but is always melodic. Dennis Ward is fast becoming one of the best songwriters in the genre, and Thunderdome reaffirms that. Nearly every song on this disc is a winner, with the exception of the throwaway introductory track "the Last Stance" and a cover of the Knack's "My Sharona". I'm sure the band had fun with that one, but it really throws a monkeywrench into an otherwise cohesive album. As always, David Readman's clear and powerful vocals are top-notch. Next to DC Cooper, Readman has just about the best voice for this style of music. AOR/melodic rock fans probably already know how great Pink Cream 69 is. For any metal fans who are thinking about trying the band out, I say go for it. The band played at ProgPower USA last year and made believers of about 1200 metal fans. Note - I just replaced my standard version of Thunderdome with the digipack version that has a bonus track. The song, "Carved in Stone" is a nice little ballad that reminds me of the Missa Mercuria album, which featured PC69's Dennis Ward and David Readman. Note 2 - Of course, now that I bought the digipack version, I see that there is a Japanese import version with yet another bonus track.

I found out about this band a couple years ago. They are fantastic. It's a shame nobody in the USA has heard of them. They are truly gifted musicians and song writers. Electrified is another awesome album. GO BUY IT.

My most favorite album from pc69,
This review is from: Thunderdome (Audio CD)
This album here is just flat out awesome and david readman is such a phenominal singer which he and the guys wrote some awesome phenominal songs here that I can't decide which is my favorite. I own almost all the pc69 albums and none of them were bad at all.
My advice is: Buy pink cream 69 albums instead of nickleback albums and support european rock music and stay heavy! Death to MTV!

Honestly, Does PC69 ever make a poor album?.?.?,

The answer, in my opinion, is so far NO. I got into Pink Cream 69 a little over a month ago when I purchased Electrified on the recommendation of Amazon, since then I've picked up 4 more albums. Thunderdome delivers more amazing melodic rock/metal with the bands' usual high quality. David Readman can deliver a vocal that can amaze you - he can stand toe to toe with anyone around today. Alfred Koffler is a very good guitarist; Dennis Ward(bass) and Kosta Zafiriou(drums) hold things together. Listen for the production on the drums, there's a crispness and snap that's really cool.
Song Highlghts include: Gods Come Together(powerful rocker), Here I Am, That Was Yesterday, Shelter(my personal favorite), My Sharona(it may be a cover - but it's a good one), Another Wrong Makes A Right and See Your Face(very cool piano groove). Thunderdome is another, in a long line, of great releases from PC69. It simply does not get much better if you are looking for powerful melodic metal, with the whole package - songwriting, musicianship and production.

Thank God that Pink Cream 69 knows how to deliver the goods. This album is heavy and filled with outstanding riffs and awesome vocal melodies. The songs are very memorable and the quality goes on throughout the entire album. I have alot of PC69 CD's but I like this one the best because the production is huge and the riffs are insane! By the way, David Readman is an awesome singer whose vocal melodies are so good it's unbeleivable and when he gets those killer harmonies and backing vocals going it is magic. I can't wait for their new album due out in 2007.

80s music with new millenium production,

PC 69 is an awesome band. I have three of their albums, and I am yet to be dissappointed. PC 69 is in-your-face 80s metal, but with way better sound and production. Nothing fancy in the instrument department, but the songs are well crafted. The real strength is vocalist David Readman. I first came across David when he was in Adagio. I was blown away by his range and tone. Nothing is forced from his voice. He has a natural sound. He is probably my favorite singer in the prog genre. Every song is killer, but my favorites are "Gods Come Together", "Thunderdome", "Shelter", "Another Wrong Makes a Right", and "Carnaby Road". "That Was Yesterday" is a great ballad. The two bonus tracks are awesome as well. If you like the good bands from the 80s, like Whitesnake & Dokken, PC 69 is right up your alley! Highly recommended!

What's up with Pink Cream 69? They have a funny name, but this band really rocks. They're officially a German band, but the lead singer is from England and bass player is from the USA. There isn't a bad song on Thunderdome, but the best track is "Gods Come Together". This band would have been a hit in the US if all this so-called "alternative" rock hadn't come around in the early 90s. They are very talented, sound excellent and are fun to listen to. They will be at the Prog Power USA VI in Atlanta in Sept. 2005 - I'll definately be there to see them live! Go by the album, you'll listen to it over and over.
