5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best: Thundering Rainstorm without Music
This doesn't contain music enhancement which is a PLUS (in my opinion) for those who prefer non-music enhanced nature sounds.

A fast summary would have to be: a great price, NOT enhanced with music (a definite PLUS for those preferring nature sounds only), 60 minutes and 13 seconds long, authentic to the point where I have to grudgingly admit this one now takes first...

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice Rainstorm, But Bird Is Too Noisy!
I should have taken the advice of the other reviews. The thunder and rain sounds great, but it is ruined by that annoying little bird! Although I enjoy the sounds of birds, the particular bird here is obnoxious. It repeats the same high pitch sound over and over again and it's very distracting. I would be willing to overlook, if it was only 3 or 5 minutes, but it...

This doesn't contain music enhancement which is a PLUS (in my opinion) for those who prefer non-music enhanced nature sounds.

A fast summary would have to be: a great price, NOT enhanced with music (a definite PLUS for those preferring nature sounds only), 60 minutes and 13 seconds long, authentic to the point where I have to grudgingly admit this one now takes first place in my Thundering Rainstorm collection.

I was surprised to read the review where the sounds of a bird are mentioned, because I had listend to the CD over and over yet had not noticed it! I listened again and found yes, the reviewer is correct and normally that noise being present in a Thunderstorm recording would be annoying to me but the way it's done in this CD I don't find it annoying, in fact I hadn't noticed it. Guess it all depends on the individual reaction.

Longer Summary: If you're looking for a Thundering Rainstorm that happens to be primarily heavy rain interspersed with a perfect balance of ranges of rain (just like a good thunderstorm) plus rolling and heavy thunder also realistically balanced, without music enhancement, you cannot go wrong with selecting this CD. I noticed it at the site a while ago but kept thinking "you get what you pay for" (extremely reasonable price), then, based on other reviews, decided to try it and I'm so glad to have purchased this CD. The rain sounds ebb and flow from heavy to light, from sprinkling to pouring, even with authentic touches such as the rain tapering off so accurately you find yourself listening to that slight "tapping" raindrops make on the raingutters as they slide down them AND, again, it's perfectly balanced because the "tapping" is not overdone, either. It's so diffcult to find thundering rainstorms without musical enhancement that are done well, this is a gem. Sometimes, once in awhile, a product comes along that offers far more than the price would generally indicate. A great product at an outstanding value. The best recording I have ever heard of a progressive thundering rainstorm. I'm considering purchasing another one just because of the great productions values combined with the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best Thunder/Rainstorms with no music, July 10, 2004
This review is from: Thundering Rainstorm (Audio CD)
I have about 5 CD thunder and rain only - no music - and I love this one best of all. I am a storm freak. There is nothing more soothing, more refreshing. To listen to rain on a tin roof or up in the hayloft, hear the thunder roll was something I adored. I could never grow tired of it. Some CD just don't capture the true sound. This one does. Thunderstorm in the Wilderness is very good, but this one is so much more real.

You hear rain on pavement, rising and falling. Sometimes is a nice soft pattern, other times near deafening downpour. The tree frogs chirping. Then lightning strikes and the thunder comes. Sometimes close, sometimes in the distance.

Just like opening the windows and listening to a good storm. So if you cannot spend the day lazying in the hayloft, this is the next best thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Peaceful sleep from now on, August 27, 2002
This review is from: Thundering Rainstorm (Audio CD)
Since the day that our CD arrived we have used it to fall asleep and stay asleep (we use the repeat on the CD player). The other reviews definitely helped me make my decision to buy this CD, I was sceptical because of the low price but so happy now with the result. There is no annoying music to distract you from the wonderful sound of falling rain and rumbling thunder. It also helps to drown out the TV that our upstairs neighbors listen to ALL night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recorded with excellence, July 2, 2000
This review is from: Thundering Rainstorm (Audio CD)
I happened upon this one by chance and am well pleased, especially considering a lot of the BS recordings out there. The thunderstorm approaches, builds and goes through the various stages...starts drizzling...into a torrential downpour. The rain recording itself is excellent...not like white noise of certain other recordings. The thunder rolls and grumbles but never pierces the night. It is great for lights out in bed!

*Thundering Rainstorm (Nature CD): without music*
I'm dying for a good "rain and thunderstorm" CD. One that doesn't have annoying music and one that doesn't have annoying birds. I don't mind birds here at home, but if I wanted a "singing birds" CD I'd have looked for it. The bird during this rainstorm is so annoying I can't believe the person recording the storm didn't shoot it. It kept waking me up, from a nice slumber I might add, and became so annoying I just finally had to turn the CD off. The thunderstorm itself is awesome...but the bird kills it. It's just to loud and annoying.

THERE'S MORE THAN JUST THAT CRAZY BIRD...there's also a fly that keeps buzzing around the microphone. It almost sounds funny. I suppose it'd be funny if I wasn't trying to relax. It made me want to swing my hands in the air to shew that pesky fly away.

WAIT...THERE'S MORE THAN THAT FUNNY FLY...there also seems to be someone walking around on a porch or something. Occasionally, I could also hear what sounds like a screen door quietly opening and shuting. As it's happening I wonder if it's someone checking to make sure a bear or wild boar hasn't attacked their recording equiptment and/or taken if off with it into the woods. Funny thought I suppose, but it becomes annoying when I'm trying to relax.

FINALLY, THERE'S ONE MORE THING...the bloody crickets! At times they're so close to the microphone it distracts from the storm. I was praying for someone to step on the loud obnoxious things. Of course what's recorded is recorded and prayer is useless at this point. But I still threw a prayer up for grabs. Out of nothing but pure frustration I'm sure. Fortunately, it's not all the way through the storm. Hmmm...perhaps it was a prayer answered and I just didn't realize it until now? I wonder if I can still do something about that darn bird?

IN FINAL...
I suppose it's a great nature CD if you want to feel like you're in a tent in the middle of the woods. Just don't try to sleep! Even relaxing will be trying.
SADLY this awesome thunderstorm is ruined by all the annoying ambiance. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS CD FOR RELAXATION PURPOSES.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than most, June 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Thundering Rainstorm (Audio CD)
The sounds were quite good, but at the start there is some sounds akin to wind, which I did not want. Then the storm arrives and throughout I can hear the sound of a bird cheeping away in the distance! It's not until about half way through that the bird seems to stop...for a while!...and then the good stuff comes with heavy rain, which I liked the most until it fades away. The result its better than most of what I have heard, but I am still not content to stop searching. I mean what in the world do the Hollywood companies use since they seem to use sound effects of thunderstorms and rain in various movies that are so realistic and make me just want to curl up in bed and fall asleep...in the cinema!

I bought this to help my insomnia, and I listen to it every night to go to sleep. It goes from loud thunderstoms to light rain, lasting about sixty minutes long. It's definetly worth it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but the one by Echoes of Nature is better, January 6, 2004

Boileau0663 (Tournai, Belgique) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thundering Rainstorm (Audio CD)
This 60 minutes rainsound cd, considering its very low price, is a great buy but it is definitely not the best in its kind.

The recording starts smoothly with incipient rain mingled with a faint insect drone in the background. Then peals of thunder are heard far off and the crackling sound of falling droplets becomes a rustle that now comes nearer the listener, now recedes in the distance. Occasional birdcalls enhance (or mar according to your personal outlook) this Wild World Symphony, accompanied by thunder explosions at regular intervals.

The whole diluvian episode would have been uncannily relaxing and refreshingly primitive but for the botched end, when the ugly, noisy world of human beings reasserts itself. The hum of traffic noise( or was it some ill-advised airplane?)suddenly breaks the spell. To drown it out, the "artists" have a peal of thunder resound mightily but too late: you immediately grasp that it is a gross apocryphal interpolation.

Scarcely have you recovered from the shock of civilization and managed to recreate the illusion of listening to the rain from inside a moss-carpeted grotto hidden on the flank of Mount Kilimandjaro when a metallic sound strikes your ear: the finishing rain is now falling on a misplaced bucket or drain pipe...

Yeah, what did you expect for less than three bucks?!

4.0 out of 5 stars JUST LIKE BUYING A REAL THUNDERSTORM!!, February 3, 2002

Unless you happen to look out the window, this CD will make you think there is really a thunderstorm! For instance, yesterday I had a girlfriend over for tea. I had the CD playing when she arrived, and it had her fooled! She said, "Oh no! Now I'll have to pull my car into the garage!" Of course, when she found out it was my CD, we laughed...and listened to the CD all the way through! Now she wants to order one herself!
I often put this CD on when I read,or when I'm at work. It's just perfect as a background to any indoor activity!
But don't listen to it while you drive. That always makes me nervous!
Just one problem-it would be nice if this CD had different tracks to choose from.Same thunderstorm everytime :( .
It's over an hour long,so they should split it up into 2 tracks. Oh well. Buy this CD and you won't regret it!
