beautiful storm!,
This review is from: Thunderstorm in the Wilderness (Audio CD)
I have several thunderstorm CDs. I love storms. There is nothing more soothing, more exhilarating. To listen to rain on a tin roof or up in the hayloft, hear the thunder roll was something I adored. I could never grow tired of it. Some CD just don't capture the true sound. This one does. You hear rain on pavement, rising and falling. Sometimes is a nice soft pattern, other times near deafening downpour. The tree frogs chirping. Then lightning strikes and the thunder comes. Sometimes close, sometimes in the distance. Just like opening the windows and listening to a good storm. Very relaxing.

Thunderstorm in the Wilderness is a great relaxation CD, since it's really more wilderness than it is thunderstorm. The sounds, which range from running water/rain to many animals, are all very soothing as the storm rolls in.The storm on this album isn't very fearsome as far as storms go, so between loons, frogs, owls and other birds the sounds of nature take center stage for most of the album. This CD consists of one long track, about 51 minutes, which is mixed evenly enough that there aren't times where you'll be jolted by sudden changes in volume.

Thunderstorm In The Wilderness-Solitudes Dan Gibson,
By
This review is from: Thunderstorm in the Wilderness (Audio CD)
This is one of the best thunderstorm cd's there is and it doesn't have music just nature sounds.Thunderstorm in the wilderness is basically a thunderstorm over a lake with all kinds of wild life. The thunder starts off distant but as it gets closer rain starts falling in the lake which is peaceful water hitting water. There are also some streams on this cd and you can hear Dan Gibson peddling his canew thru the lake. The wildlife consist of toads, frogs, birds, loons and owls. The owls sounds really errie. There are actually 2 storms on this cd.The first one eventually stops and you just hear the wildlife but than just when you think it's over it you hear distant thunder which gets louder again.Like some of the other viewers said don't turn the sound up too loud because the thunder gets loud in some parts of the cd.It's like the lightning hits something close by and it's loud enough to wake you up.Dan Gibson risked his life to get out on a lake during a thunderstorm and record this.He could have been hit by lightning but he wasn't and he put this great recording on a great sounding cd.The sound quality is awesome. Some other reviews said this wasn't real but it was.He really recorded this on a lake during a storm.I'm guessing his equipment was covered up with something to protect it.

THE REAL DEAL,
By
This review is from: Thunderstorm in the Wilderness (Audio CD)
This CD is great. It is a must have. Picture yourself in the wild or on a lake in a boat and a thunderstorm comes rolling in slowly. You hear the rain, the thunder in the distance, you sense the storm getting closer. The storm is over head, loud piercing thunder claps and you duck for cover. The thunderstorm slowly moves out but the rain is a constant presents. The thunder rolls on but the wild life moves in, bullfrogs, owls in the distance, all the animals are alive now. This cd is all in one, the real deal. It is not all thunder. I love it. I also bought Thunderstorm [Rykodisc]; this was a waste of money. To me, in my opinion it sounds like the storm just knocked the cable out, static and more static.

Definitly one of the best 'Thunderstorm' CD's,
By A Customer
This review is from: Thunderstorm in the Wilderness (Audio CD)
A great CD to relax to (really!). The thunder is mostly rolling of in the distance and the intensity of the rain varies as the storm progresses. A very natural recording (because it is!) and amazingly life like. If you like 'nature' recordings and have not heard of Dan Gibson before, you should definitely check him out. I think the first reviewer must have got this CD confused with a different recording, since this is defintely NOT one of 'those' that have been mixed with music! I would also suggest you check out 'The Atmosphere Collection' by Rykodisc. Even though some of these recording were done back in the late 80's, they are still some of the best!

After many years of looking...,

This is the CD that I finally bought. Solitudes does an awesome job when it comes to nature CD's. Of course, the thunderstorm and animals aren't real, but they sure do sound like they are. The back of the CD case says not to turn it up too loud with too much base, it's the truth! Even though I haven't blown speakers with this disc, it's a very real possibility that it can be done without any effort. It's very amazing, featuring frogs, loons, other birds and animals. You'll be fast asleep after the pooring rain stops and the passing thunderstorm makes its way east.If you are looking for a Thunderstorm CD that doesn't have *any* musical instruments in the background, this is the one for you!!

Loud dripping sounds ruined it for me........,

This thunderstorm CD was just okay - if I had the option, I would give it 2.5 stars instead of 3.
For whatever reason, the author chose to put a continuous dripping noise over the sounds of rain and thunder. I'm talking about the kind of dripping that keeps you up at night, such as from a drippy faucet. And it's not subtle - it's front and center, as if the microphone is right next to the dripping. Apparently, it was an attempt at a "babbling brooke" effect, but it didn't work - it's just annoying. For me, it was distracting and detracted from the sounds of rain and thunder. Personally, I also don't like the sounds of chirping and squawking birds, etc, on thunderstorm CDs, but I know many people do like that, and perhaps it was sort of the theme of this one, so I can't take points off for that. If you're just looking for the sounds of just a thunderstorm - ie. the sound of thunder and rain falling on trees and/or pavement, look elsewhere.

One of my favorites!,

I've been looking for a high quality nature CD without music, they're hard to find. If you've never heard a CD by Dan Gibson, you've got to try this one. The thunderstorm starts from a distance and moves closer. Then when the storm seems to fade, you hear wildlfe. It's very realistic. No music. The sound needs to be turned lower or the thunder can be overwhelming. Read the other reviews, this is a good purchase!

Decent Thundershower Sounds,

I purchased this to desensitize my dog to the sound of thunderstorms. He's not as anxious when a storm materializes, so it must be doing the trick.

Like it or not, wildlife happens to be around when thunderstorms occur. Then it typically goes very silent, then soon after it reappears as if it never left. This recording capures that perfectly. Wildlife sounds aren't overwhelming, but they're definitely around.
The storms themselves are fantastic. Not as violent and sudden as what we're used to here in Missouri or what you might be used to around the Midwest, but a very nice recording that captures both good distant building and more immediate "local" claps. Worth the money. |
