Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 6-8-In this introductory volume, Rowh provides background on his subject's childhood in Baltimore, college and law-school days, and early experiences as an attorney. Much discussion is focused on Marshall's work as a lawyer and advocate for the NAACP, including his role in Supreme Court cases such as Patton v. Mississippi, Garner v. Louisiana, and Brown v. Board of Education. The book concludes with Marshall's time spent on the Supreme Court bench and his thoughts on such notable cases as Roe v. Wade. Information about his family and personal life is included, as are numerous black-and-white photographs. A solid addition to the series, this well-written and accessible title is ideal for research and a valuable supplement to biography collections.
