4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I was so drawn in! I couldn't put the book down! I stayed up until about two o'clock in the morning just reading it! It's an excellent read. And if there's any person that's as big a fan of Sandra Brown as I am, then you should definitely read THIS book!

3.0 out of 5 stars A romantic quick read, January 31, 2002
This review is from: Thursday's Child (Hardcover)
I have read other books by Sandra Brown and have always enjoyed her writing--knowing that it's well done but not thick with plot and mystery. This novel was about twins trading places for a few days-----two women who were completely different in every way except in their looks. Having lived with twin girls in nursing school, I know that this is very easily done----it's especially easy when someone meets them for the first time and doesn't "know" them as well as close friends would. I found this story to be believable with a little different twist on it----Allison finding romance and love in an unlikely man who first thought that she was Annie.
I must admit, however, that I was quite irritated when Spencer was so persistent and intense when he was trying to get "Ann" to leave Davis for him-----when it was actually Allison---who was not the one engaged to Davis. I find it hard to swallow that any many would be that heavy into a pursuit of his best friend's fiance. I think most decent men would be a little bit more subtle. I also thought at the time that perhaps he had caught on to the thought that this was the "other" twin----after he was told she had an identical twin. I thought the portrayal of Spencer as such a "wolf" was not too realistic. And then to have him turn around and become such a romantic, so suave----hard to fathom.
I read this book in just a couple of hours----a very fast read. It didn't have much of a plot, no mystery, no deaths----just pure romance and love. A fun book when you want to "escape" for a few hours.

1.0 out of 5 stars I would not recommend this book, February 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Thursday's Child (Hardcover)
I was very disappointed in Thursdays Child. I found the plot to simple and silly. I don't mind reading a simple book , but I found that this book was to unbelieveable. The charactors behaved in away that I don't think anyone would or at least I hope they would'nt. The book seems to have been written with no thought. I found that all the books that Sandra Brown has done early in her career and has had reprinted have been written that way. If you want to read a good Sandra Brown book pick up any of her new books, those are written with thought and substance.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you're looking for fluff..., November 13, 2002
This review is from: Thursday's Child (Mass Market Paperback)
...you've found it here. I read this book in one day while traveling. Started it on a cross-country flight and finished it in my hotel room that evening. The story is fairly well done, however like one of the previous reviewers I agree that Spencer's character should have seen through the "switch" plot and not been so surprised by it. The story was very predictable but perfect "fluff" for reading while traveling.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely ludicrous!, May 3, 2002

This review is from: Thursday's Child (Hardcover)
It is amazing to me that the same person who wrote the wonderfully written "Envy" and "The Alibi" is the same author who wrote this idiotic shlock! The characters behaved so unrealistically--basically in a way to allow Ms. Brown to continue writing a story. It was absolutely ludicrous to me that the first time Spencer appeared at Ann's condo thinking Allison was Ann, Allison didn't just tell him the truth right then and there. It was also ludicrous that Ann would have thought it was perfectly acceptable for her fiance to passionately kiss and fondle her twin sister while Ann was in the hospital. I also found it totally unbelievable that Allison was SO fearful about losing her virginity. It just didn't seem realistic that she would be so passionately caught up in the moment, and then suddenly become too fearful. I also thought it was unrealistic that Spencer would hide the fact that he was a successful stamp collector even from his best friend. In real life, that deception would never have occurred--but it occurred in this sophmoric novel simply to keep a little bit of reader suspense until the end. Even the very steamy lovemaking scenes did not make this book worth reading. This is the second twin-switching Sandra Brown novel I read, and I didn't enjoy "The Switch" either.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth your time, April 23, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Thursday's Child (Hardcover)
I've been reading Sandra Brown books since I was 16 years old. I know her work has never been big on plots, but it has always been entertaining and, every now and then, you discover a gem.

This book was not a gem.

To say I didn't like the book is putting it mildly. I had to force myself to keep reading it. Near the end I found myself skipping pages just so I could reach the end faster. And when I did finish, I threw the book across the room because I hated it so much.

This novel is a reprint of Sandra Brown's earlier works -- that's obvious by the end of the first chapter. It's based on an unbelievable premise and the characters are not likable. You can't sympathize or empathize with them. Why does a woman who's already engaged get a breast enlargement to please her fiancee? Who becomes a millionaire buying stamps? And why would a woman want to get pregnant with a man she barely knows?

Don't read the book. You'll hate yourself for wasting a couple hours of your life once you've finished.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Shallow, March 25, 2002

This story is so much like the ones we read when we were children or teens. The plot was simple and predictable and the characters were nothing new. I finished the book but was not intrigued with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good erotic nighttime read, January 10, 2002
By
This review is from: Thursday's Child (Hardcover)
The first Sandra Brown book I read is the more recent Envy which I found to be a great book. I only realize now after reading the description of the author on the last page of this book that she started out as a romance novel writer. Was I in for a pleasant surprise! I had been reading a string of action-suspense books from Jonathan Kellerman and Robert Ludlum the past few weeks.

In many ways, this book accomplishes what it set out to do. Plotwise it's very simple. It's about two identical twins who couldn't be more different from one another that switch places for a few days. All hell breaks loose when a friend comes to visit Ann's fiance. This friend falls in love with the ersatz twin, Allison, who is a socially awkward researcher in a lab. In the end, this friend (Spencer) makes a woman out of her and gives her the most precious gift a woman could ask for -- a child. There are of course the requisite last minute conflicts that hint at a bad ending, but the reader should note that Sandra Brown likes happy endings. (She hasn't strayed yet.)

This is an easy read (200+ pages in nice 12pt. font). I recommend this book as a nighttime read for those needing some stimulation.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really liked this book!, March 23, 2005
This review is from: Thursday's Child (Mass Market Paperback)
I just love the sparks between Spenser & Alison. It was a quick read that I read in one day. Only 10 chapters, but it was entertaining & you really feel for Alison, cause she doesn't seem very confident but really develops throughout the story.
