Editorial Reviews

About the Artist

Prague Spring was founded by experimental filmmaker Andrew Bellware. Among Prague Spring's most recent projects are the soundtracks for Andrew's "Hamlet" (an original-language, modern - dress feature shot on a toy video camera) and the upcoming "Apostasy" (in which Lucifer has taken over the earth with only an atheist priest and a sexy gun-toting nun to stop him -- with many apologies to John Milton).

For the new Prague Spring album, Thus, Prague Spring has a new addition: the classically-trained flautist Sky Grealis. "Sky is technically excellent and can sight-read anything" Andrew says, "but with what she and I are doing those things aren't as important, we rely on her beautiful melodic and soundscaping skills."

Together they have created what they call "acoustic electronica". Flute and guitar merge in an effervescent sound combined with live and electronic percussion and synthesizers. "Thus" is an instrumental record which uses natural and unnatural sounds to invoke the kind of cinematic movement of theater or ambient video. The unique sound is influenced by Andrew's background as a sound designer with some of the premier "downtown" theater companies in New York.

Product Description

And instrumental soundscape with guitar and flute. "Acoustic Electronica" is the best idea of what Prague Spring is all about.

They say there IS no new music and to a great extent this is true... and then along comes Prague Spring! In a genre unto itself, defying classification, these talented, focused and visionary musicians bring to the ear what the aftermath of a summer thunderstorm brings to the other senses: A freshness that is at once soothing and stimulating! I am not typically enthralled by "non-vocal" (instrumental only) works except for the classics, but "Thus" is different: neither elevator muzak nor assembly-line "new age", its unusually juxtaposed sound waves captivated me on contact. What type of music is it? What does it sound like? You really have to listen for yourself to appreciate the music and how unique an addition it is to any well-rounded, eclectic collection. The only thing wrong with Prague Spring is lack of promotion and exposure, but with stuff this good that can't help but change.

This album is different from anything I've ever heard, almost new age but rock based with a twist of classical styling. An event to listen too, and even more of an event to see live (I've seen them Twice!) The flutist on this album is regarded as one of the greatest flutists in the country, among the inside of the industry, and andrew bellware is a man of artistry on all fronts. To close, pick up this cd any way possible, the 9 bucks is more than reasonable, for an expierience like this.
