5.0 out of 5 stars What creativity and passion is all about, May 4, 2009
This review is from: Thy Kingdom Gone (MP3 Download)
I have to say Thy Kingdom Gone is one of the best albums I heard this year. In an age where everyone and their grandmother is in a femme metal band, you have one band that is so unique, they stand out like a sore thumb. That's Flowing Tears. With beautiful melodies, gorgeous lyrics and Helen's dark husky voice, this band deserves the fame it lacks. All songs on the album are gems but two that stand out for me the best is the song Orchidfire and Miss Fortune. Recommended for those who miss the old Lacuna Coil style or fans of The Gathering - get Thy Kingdom Gone!

Flowing Tears' latest effort gets them back to where they should have been in following up to Serpentine, having gotten off track due to the departure of their former singer, Steffie Duschesne.

Helen Vogt comes into her own, and the songwriting has evolved. While Razorbliss had a couple of good tracks, IMHO I consider it to be a transitional album.

To illustrate Helen's talent, The War We Left Behind, the closing track on Thy Kingdom comes to mind, featuring Helen's alto voice unleashed on the chorus, soaring in an elegant, yet belting swell over the guitars.

The songwriting and instruments also show the benefit of lengthy touring and the establishment of a new group dynamic within the band. Tight performances (layered guitars and a machine gun rhythm section), and excellent use of piano/keys for dynamic shifts, bring driving grooves and strategically placed hooks to life.

I certainly wish they would tour the States so US audiences get an up close look at this superb German export.

4.0 out of 5 stars great!!!, December 18, 2008
This review is from: Thy Kingdom Gone (MP3 Download)
Thy Kingdom Gone is definitely a step forward for Flowing Tears. All the songs on this cd are heavier and more catchy than Razorbliss(which was also good). The music seems more....mature than on Razorbliss and a lot more depressing/dark. Recommended for fans of Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Amaran, Anadies, and any other "non operatic singing female fronted metal group that doesn't scream"<--as i like to call it. :D 4/5 stars.
