Book Description

November 14, 2011
April Love has always dreamed of being a chef. But she didn't expect a former fiancé or murder to be part of the recipe for her new job. When April Love signs on to be an in-house chef at an old lakeshore mansion in Canoga Lake, Wisconsin, she comes face to face with her long-lost love, the drop-dead gorgeous Marc Thorne. It doesn't take long for their old magnetism to recharge, but how can she trust the guy who left her nearly at the altar eight years earlier? Her gut tells her something happened to Marc in between-something he's reluctant to reveal. When April's boss is murdered, Marc is accused of the crime. Unless April can find out who really killed Ramón Galvez, her chances for love will end up at the county jail. But someone else is just as determined she not solve the mystery...and will go to any length to stop her. "A romantic mystery full of twists, turns, fancy cooking, a hunky hero, and a heroine who doesn't take no for answer."-Cynthia Hickey, author of the Summer Meadows Mysteries and Unraveling Love. "Great food and a murder are all the rage today for haute cuisine. I'm looking forward to more adventures!"-Bonnie S. Calhoun, Publisher of Christian Fiction Online Magazine, author of Cooking the Books. "Fresh, clever, witty, and real. That rare romance that leaps to 3-D life and keeps you enraptured-and guessing."-Tammy Barley, award-winning author of The Sierra Chronicles, Executive Editor of WorldTalk international Christian books and Destination: Earth magazine. "A compelling romance with unique characters that will live on in your hearts long after you turn the last page."-Ane Mulligan, Sr. Editor, Novel Rocket; http://www.novelrocket.com. Bonus feature: Recipe for Chicken George.

The cover clearly lets you know that this is a romance: The title "Thyme for love", the photos of an attractive, smiling couple with a beautiful sunset (or is it a sunrise?) in the background, being part of "On The Road To Love" series. If I saw this at a bookstore, I would have smiled at it and looked for a mystery. Having seen its description in a contest for a copy of this book (which I won), I realized that this story probably would be more accurately a romantic mystery. I'm glad I knew that, because otherwise I would have missed this wonderful book that succeeds on all fronts.

Pamela S. Meyers does a wonderful job with pacing. I was hooked from the first page, hooked again at the end of the first chapter, and at the end of the second, etc. It also is light-hearted and fun. One reason I grabbed it when I did from my reading pile was that I wanted something less heavy than the fiction I had been reading, and it was what I expected. At 200 pages, it is a book you could pick up on your day off as you get your morning coffee and finish it that day, if you wish.

Meyers does a wonderful job with interesting characters. It's told first person by aspiring chef April Love. April has a great, entertaining perspective, but even with the humor evident from the start, the leading man and supporting cast come off as believable; I fairly recently read another romantic mystery with a quirky first person narrative where the characters are caricatures almost. Meyers successfully avoids that trap, and has you ready for the next installment, hoping to see several of these people again.

This book is Christian fiction, but is not at all preachy. If you're a person who's offended by the mention of Christianity, you might want to pass. The Christian themes are clear but don't get in the way of either the main romance plot or the mystery subplot.

One extra bonus: At the end of the story is a recipe for a dish April serves. I might get my wife to try it. Why couldn't Frank Perretti or Allistair MacLean or Randy Singer or even Agatha Christie have included recipes?

4.0 out of 5 stars Yummy November 15, 2011
Format:Paperback
Here's a surprise for you!! What if you showed up at a job interview for a job you've been just dying to get and your ex-fiancé' is there? And not only does he work there but he could potentially be your future boss!!Yikes!! Do you run from the job you've always wanted or do you toughen up and face your fear!! When April Love starts the process of trial period there at the Lakeshore Mansion a mystery is suddenly thrown in to the mix when the man that was supposed to hire her and become her boss is murdered!! Her hunky ex Marc is suspect yet she knows deep in heart there is no way he a killer! Marc and April will have to put their issues aside to try to get answers to mystery behind the recent murder!!

If you are big fan of Christian suspense as I am, I think you will find Thyme for Love a great book!! I feel I'm pretty good at figuring out who the bad guy is when I start reading a mystery novel yet I didn't quite have it all figured out in this book. There were some things I guessed correctly and other parts that blew me away!

Not only does this novel hold your attention with the mystery but it also grabs your heart with the romance! I loved the hero Marc Thorne! He is handsome, sweet, and he can't deny his attraction and intense longing for his past love April. I loved the romantic tension and sweet moments they shared!

Thyme for Love also gives us these great descriptions of all that April Love is cooking. I felt like I could drool over the breakfast cart that came by the office with pastries and goodies every morning!! I would really love someone to swing by my office with some of those goodies!!

Last but not least we have a lesson to learn. In Thyme for Love there was A LOT of gossip. The tongues were wagging in that office like nothing else!! Pamela reminded us how much damage our gossip can do, and she also reminded us that we should be slow to judge others! April struggled with getting caught up in the gossip and therefore I found her easy to relate to because I feel lots of Christian women struggle with refraining from the gossip train!!

Make some thyme for this novel in your life, you won't regret it!! Grab a pastry and a cup of coffee and sit back and enjoy a great story!!

I read this as an ARC provided by the author. I received no compensation for this review! All opinions are my own.

Thyme for Love is a romantic mystery with just the right amount of suspense.

April Love moves back to Wisconsin to fulfill her dream of being a chef. Her Aunt set up an interview at the Rescate de Nino and April is thrilled until she sees that Marc Thorne her former fiance works there. April is determined to fulfill her dream in spite of Marc. She is offered the job on a trial basis and agrees to start the next day. However, the job isn't exactly what she expected. Her new boss turns up dead on her first day and there are rumors spreading through the Rescate that he was murdered.
