5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I've read on thyroid disorders.
This is easily the best book I've read on thyroid disorders and I've read many. Because of this book I still have my throid and my Graves disease is in remission! Several doctors recommend I have it removed and be forever in need of synthetic hormone treatments. But this book taught me about the condition and I learned how to correct the imbalance in my life and remedy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I've read on thyroid disorders., April 2, 2006
This review is from: Thyroid Balance: Traditional and Alternative Methods for Treating Thyroid Disorders (Paperback)
This is easily the best book I've read on thyroid disorders and I've read many. Because of this book I still have my throid and my Graves disease is in remission! Several doctors recommend I have it removed and be forever in need of synthetic hormone treatments. But this book taught me about the condition and I learned how to correct the imbalance in my life and remedy my situation. The book is easy to read and informative. The goal of the author is to help the reader comprehend the endocrine system and it's relation to the body and mind as a whole. It blends western and eastern philosophies and knowledge to help readers make informed decisions on how to live with a thyroid disorder. Exceptional, exceptional, exceptional. I am forever grateful to the author.

If you are looking for a book that outlines traditional and alternative methods for treating thyroid disorders, this is NOT the one to buy. In fact, it covers this topic in the last quarter of the book and only in a couple of pages. Mostly covers the endocrine system, symptoms, signs, thyroid drugs, differences between hypo and hyperthyroidism. This information is ok for those who are newly diagnosed and need more information. Does not provide any insightful methods on alternative methods for treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Searching for Answers, June 6, 2003

At the end of a long search for an answer to extreme fatigue, I found Thyroid Balance by Dr. Rothfeld. The language is clear and understandable, yet indepth and a little technical. This book spoke to me about my symptoms - there they were in print! And it gave enough detailed information to help me and my doctor determine the answer I'd been searching for. Very informative, analytical, easy to understand and follow, and a great resource for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!! Very informative and in-depth. A must have!, May 1, 2003
This review is from: Thyroid Balance: Traditional and Alternative Methods for Treating Thyroid Disorders (Paperback)
I was diagnosed with Hashi's in September of 2002 and didn't know much about it. I looked at several books, but didn't learn much. I found this book and there is so much information. It is written in easy to understand language, and really goes deep into everything you ever wanted to know about the thyroid, treatments, and almost every other question something with their thyroid out of balance wants to know. This book is not just for people with Hashi's, but for everyone with their thyroid out of balance. I definitely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just started and am astounded!, June 4, 2007
This review is from: Thyroid Balance: Traditional and Alternative Methods for Treating Thyroid Disorders (Paperback)
Well I've jsut started reading this book and am already astounded at the wealth of information. I have already learned details that i haven't in the other thyroid sources I've been reading. (they were good each for their own reasons though) This is the first book I've come across that seems to address T2 (something my doctor told me didn't exist!!!) as well as how other endocrine functions can really affect the thyroid. Even though I am still in tghe beginning chapters I am already so glad I bought this book!

Really good book. Throw out every diet idea before it kills you, and soak up the advice Ann Gittleman (a recovering Pritkin - or any - "diet" fan) has to tell you. It's a great guide for women, and for anyone who wants to know some basics about good nutrition. No book is perfect, but this is a good one. Don't miss the many good reference sources she lists at the back of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative reading, October 22, 2008
This review is from: Thyroid Balance: Traditional and Alternative Methods for Treating Thyroid Disorders (Paperback)
Was browsing a local used bookstore for another title on thyroid disorders when I ran across this book. I bought it on a whim and am so glad that I did.
This book is informative and offers easy-to-understand (but not insultingly easy)explanations of the how the body, and more specifically, the thyroid works. It covers hypo- and hyperthyroidism equally and is presented in a way that makes it easy to skip over the condition that doesn't pertain to you. I was especially thankful for the presentation of alternative treatments and ideas that might be beneficial, as these are so often overlooked in traditional allopathic books.
I am presently being treated for Hashimotos by an integrative practitioner who is open and willing to try new things. I can't wait until my next appointment so that I can present this newly learned information to her. After reading this book, I feel such a sense of relief that there are solutions out there to treating hypothyroidism more effectively.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well rounded book, October 17, 2007
This review is from: Thyroid Balance: Traditional and Alternative Methods for Treating Thyroid Disorders (Paperback)
I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease and am struggling between hypo and hyperactive symptoms concurrently.

The Thyroid Balance is informative and gives a general overview of thyroid disorders and treatment options (including alternative medicine options) for all thyroid conditions.

It touches on the topic of when surgery is necessary and when patients may benefit from another course of action (i.e. acupuncture or other holistic treatments, avoiding certain foods that may trigger the disorder)

I think its a great book to get started with and I would defintely reccommend it to a friend. However, it was published in 2003 so I would check with a doctor to see if any of the information needs to be updated or if additional research has been done.
