So far, I love it!

I have been a Tivo user since their first box. Before buying the Roamio Pro I was using three Premier Elite boxes and one Tivo Stream in my home. I'm so glad I decided to upgrade one of my boxes to the Roamio Pro. Here are a few reasons why...

- Much better and faster interface. On my Elite I set it to use the older menu style because the new one was slow. That is not he case on Roamio, it's new, easy, nice, and FAST!

- Downloads programs much faster to iPad/iPhone for later off line viewing (plane, etc.) than they did when I used TiVo Stream before. TiVo Stream is not needed with Roamio Pro. I can even download or stream from my non-Roamio Tivos without the Stream hooked up, since it just routes it all through the one Roamio, so I can get rid of my TiVo Stream completely.

- The remote is now RF!

- The Netflix interface is nice, and fast. Better than Apple TV, which is how I use to watch Netflix. I'll now use TiVo for Netflix.

- Works great with latest version of TiVo iPhone/iPad app. (Remote streaming "coming very soon.")

- With the Tivo's new "Season Pass Manager" on their website, I was able to transfer all my season pass programs from my previous TiVo to the new one. Nice!

- "Watch Now" feature is a great way to find movies, sports, etc., that are on right now.

- Of course, the 450 hours of HD programming and recording 6 shows at the same time is awesome.

So far I'm very happy I moved to Roamio. Once they have the live remote streaming to iPhone and iPad (which they say will be available "very soon"), it will do pretty much everything you need from a DVR, and until then, the faster downloading of programs to the iPhone/iPad is nice.

Verified Purchase
Wow! I'm posting a review of a TiVo with less than 5 stars. I never thought that would happen, and for what appears to be their latest and greatest box.

Since others have reported on why this unit is so good, I will tell you why it is not.

Reason #1. The latest models have different tuners. If you want a TiVo that can be used with an OTA antenna, and avoid high cost cable service, you must buy the low end model. The two models with 6 tuners and lots of storage can only be used with digital cable.

Reason #2. No upgrade for lifetime subscriptions. I have 2 Series 3 TiVos with lifetime service. In the past, they sometimes allowed you to transfer your subscription to a new model for a fee. They won't now. Lifetime service is $500. If you have other TiVos they will deduct $100. But I don't need 3 TiVos, especially with current options for multi room or remote viewing.

Reason #3. And the biggie. Before I bought this box and spent $1,000, I called TiVo to make sure I could access Amazon Prime. They assured me I could. When I set it up, I discovered I had no more functionality than my current TiVo. I could download purchased video, or purchase streaming video. But I could not access my watchlist or free Prime videos.

So, I bought a new Roku. Not only will it retrieve my Amazon watchlist, but makes it easy to find content, especially if you have other services like Hulu or Netflix. A quick search shows which service provides a particular movie or show. Easy to use, and the Roku 3 is lightning fast.

Once the indisputable champ, the world is changing how we access and watch media. TiVo is not keeping up.

Huge step-up from Motorola 160GB digital HDTV dvr.

Only criticism, there is no screensaver. When you pause a recorded program, the image just sits there unchanged (for hours). As I have a plasma, a huge risk of burn in as life intrudes and you pause a program only to come back to the TV hours later and are shocked to see the static image (and pray that it hasn't burned in). Not an issue with the built-in Pandora app (which has a screensaver that floats album artwork around the screen). The Motrorola DVR had a screensaver that worked even when you paused a recorded program. Please add a screensaver that floats a thumbnail image of the static paused image around the screen.

I'm a new TiVo user. No user manual provided with device or online (the previous generation manual for the Premiere model online at TiVo.com suffices).

Update: Viewer's Manual (User Guide) now available. See: [...]

Two remote tricks that took me some digging to find out.

Zoom button (when in menus) is how you quickly exit the menu and return to the program you have been watching (equivalent to "Exit" for Motorola and SA cable system provided rental dvrs). If you hit the LiveTV button, you exit -- but are sent to a live video (which is not necessarily the show being shown in the PIP window -- e.g., when you had been watching a recorded video and navigating the guide, pressing LiveTV will exit both the guide and the playback).

LiveTV button is how you rotate among the 6 tuners (equivlant to "Swap" for two-tuner DVR's provided by cable systems).
