Spiritually adventurous viewers will find
God and Buddha: A Dialogue excellent meditation fodder. Former Buddhist monk Robert Thurman and Vedanta evangelist Deepak Chopra each relate the foundations of their respective spiritual understandings in a format better described as lecture than dialogue. Though there is some discourse between the two, for the most part each sticks to his script, occasionally interjecting small jokes or encouragement at points of confluence. This does not detract from the force of the comparison; if anything, the similarities are made more apparent in the quieter contrast. Chopra's intellectual spirituality plays well off of Thurman's earthier sensibilities, and it is tempting to assign these traits to their respective systems of belief. Ultimately, though, the viewer reaches the conclusion that the men and their beliefs are more alike than not.
