5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, haunting, and very listenable, October 27, 2003

I received a copy of this album after seeing the film, and it just keeps growing on me every time I listen to it. The music is emotionally evocative and poignant, yet soothing. There's a wonderful diversity of instrumentation and treatments that keeps the flow of tracks constantly interesting: especially the unique interplay between pairings such as trumpets and piano, with Tibetan long horn and bamboo flutes, which creates a very listenable blend of modern soft jazz and traditional Tibetan elements. There are passages of luminous chanting and singing that are just gorgeous, as well as edgier passages that recall the film. I've found that I enjoy listening to it in my office as well as in the car because it's calming without being tranquilizing. I think this is a great album for anyone at all interested in Tibet, or someone who likes to play atmospheric or meditative background music. You can't really dance to it, but it really does make you feel good to listen to!

I love this CD and Nawang's other entitled Quiet Mind. This CD leaves me feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, more spiritually atuned and softened, more peaceful. Yet these words inadequately describe the beautiful sensation that Nawang's music produces. I believe this music is life changing.

When I heard the first note (of this CD) for the first time, I instantly began meditating (without being self-induced). I also began to relax while simultaneously experiencing a sense of spiritual and creative awakening. An interesting sensation to say the least. This beautiful one-of-a kind music is a blessing, a true godsend. We have much to learn from the Tibetans and their music is breath-taking. I'm so thankful to have this CD (and Quiet Mind too), as they bring me so much joy, awe, and spiritual comfort. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Memory of Tibet, January 11, 2007

I can listen to this soundtrack repeatedly without tiring. Ngawang Khechog's voice is as lovely as his flute. It's a lush soundscape of chanting monks, poignant prayers and digitally enhanced ritual music which recalls mountain monestaries, pastoral farmlands and a country slowly fading into the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC SOUNDTRACK!, October 18, 2007

Jeff Beal offers Nawang a great backdrop of music for his spiritual sounds. Although there are parts that include sounds from the movie and voices, this album is a great one to inlcude in your collection...

Such a rare and beautiful find. I listen to this masterpiece every day. And it never fails to carry me to that lovely mindful place. Watch the DVD and then buy this incredible soundtrack. But only if you want to expand yourself and welcome more joy and compassion into your life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tibedt: Cry of the Snow Lion, October 16, 2011

I had meant to order the movie, which I had already seen and wanted to share with others, but I accidently got the CD instead. It turned out to not be a mistake at all, since it has become one of my two favorite recordings. It's very beautiful, uplifting, yet having a haunting nature that sometimes reflects the tragedy that Tibet has become.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly ..., March 13, 2008
This review is from: Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion (Audio CD)
This is a very good music album. The ambient and the folk have been mixed to perfection and to an extent that they seem the same. The ambient background folds around the Tibetan chants to near perfection. The tracks all merge into each other and you wouldn't realize the transition at all. Although all tracks are wonderful, there are two that stand out...
1. Cry of The Snow Lion: This is the title track and is absolutely surreal. Close your eyes and imagine the chants echoing of the high peaks of the Himalayas and into the clear blue skies.
2. The Celebration: If music had to describe the word celebration, then this would be one of the best ways to do it. It signifies the celebration of the human soul, its eternity, purity and unbounded love. My only complaint is that it is too short and I have to play it again and again. The ambient textures are superb.
