5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite vocals intense material, November 5, 2000
By
This review is from: Tibet Tibet (Audio CD)
I've owned Tibet, Tibet by Yungchen Lhamo for 3 years. It's very beautiful music. Too intense for playing as background for home socializing, though. Best in private listening. Her voice has a magnificent range, full articulation. It's deeply sad at times. There's a certain heart-wrenching quality in Tibetan refugee women's household singing, the normal daily singing a woman might do when fetching water or stirring the hearth... That quality once flowed mainly from broken-hearted lovers but now it flows from all who have lost their connection to their land. Yungchen Lhamo has that quality in powerful measure. Her name means "great symbol of the protector goddess." Powerful name, powerful voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars a voice that will melt your heart, March 22, 2001

This review is from: Tibet Tibet (Audio CD)
though she sings in tibetan (a language i don't understand)just the sound of her voice melts my heart like the butter sculptures of her native homeland. it is so pure, so clear and so bright. it is such a delight to sit back at the close of a long hard day and shut your eyes and have the sound of her voice sweep over you. i love this this c-d so much that i went out and bought her second c-d "coming home" is well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Haunting, May 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Tibet Tibet (Audio CD)
A simply beautiful and spiritually haunting voice from Tibet. Yungchen Lhamo has a voice that one will not easily forget. She is truly unique and, to the best of my current knowledge, one of the only women who has made a recording of Tibetan chants and prayers. Dim the lights, burn some incense and settle down to be taken away to the Roof of the World.

5.0 out of 5 stars The voice of a land that, in the past, was near the Sky., July 13, 2005
This review is from: Tibet Tibet (Audio CD)
Yungchen Lhamo: a passionate pure voice of a woman who paints for us the spirit of a land that, about 40 years ago, was FREE.
It is the voice of the snow, the voice of the wind, the voice
of the water among the rocks.
Tibet, the real Tibet is dead under foreign military boots.
Young monks and younger nuns, still in their childhood, have
been put in prison for 12 years because of a placard on which it
was written: "FREEDOM FOR TIBET".
All that remains is the voice of Yungchen Lhamo.

Yungchen Lhamo's voice is so expressive, passionate and beautiful. Accompanied by the chant recited by the Monk, the CD creates a unique and somewhat mysterical/nostalgic feeling that deeply and completely touches your soul. The music is a bridge of the heaven and the earth. There is no doubt in my mind that this CD represents one of the greatest assets of musical archival.

5.0 out of 5 stars You do not have to understand, just feel it, May 15, 2003
This review is from: Tibet Tibet (Audio CD)
This CD is one of the most beautiful that you can find. It takes to the high self without understanding the lirics. Just let it come inside of your body and soul. You will feel like dancing with the Eart and the skies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tibetan Beauty Wows!, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Tibet Tibet (Audio CD)
Yungchen Lhamo was a surprise. I happened upon her work by accident. I had heard very little about her, but indeed everything I heard was good. Her voice is quite amazing! She has a wondrous quality in her voice that will bring tears to any listener's eyes. I particularly like the last five or so songs, there are some traditional instruments in those and the last song is the absolute best out of them all. This is a wonderful buy for anyone wanting to hear truly beautiful Tibetan Music.

If there was any question in your mind if you are a deeply emotional person, just listen to this. If you cry, you are. After listening to this for 5 seconds, I was crying like a baby - it's so unbelievably touching it's hard to describe in words, you merely have to experience it for yourself first hand.
