5.0 out of 5 stars Sea of Immortality
Listening to this Cd in a darkened room with Chinese insense sticks one is almost transported to another world.

Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream sang John Lennon some six years before this album was recorded. This music transcends boundaries and defies description. It has a timeless quality almost irridescent except you cannot see it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reflect your mood
I have been using them for my sessions, but be warned that if you are in a middle to negative mood, it will seem scary/dark to you. If you're in a very positive mood, even the sharpness of the metal bells will not seem too loud and you will fall into a very deep trance. My clients agreed, so I put the CD last when we're already in a positive mood.

The listener almosts gasps at the perfection of the sounds that seem to hang in the air.

This music is a joy to listen to, a joy to experience. You cannot say much about it but you can feel it with your mind and body.

What an experience!

4.0 out of 5 stars desert island, June 5, 2007
This review is from: Tibetan Bells (Audio CD)
i got this in 1977 on vinyl.

the cd version kills your ears as the sound is so pure.

i literally cant listen to it.

i recommend the vinyl if you can find it. the pops are cool with it, and far better mastering than todays aluminium baked crap.

or, bung it to cassette to warm it up.

its great but too bad about not having the original artwork. this is cheezy.

P.S. the ones after this are not nearly as good!

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing recording, March 5, 2010
This review is from: Tibetan Bells [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
Bought this on LP about 10 years ago for cheap, and it got shuffled off into the back of my collection. Talk about wasted years! Put this on the other day and it just completely blew my mind. There are amazing sonorities, beautiful washes of sound. Some of the tones that the bells make sound electronic in origin, but that is because there is such a purity of pitch - that's one thing Tibetan bells are known for.

Now, I didn't know until I was trolling here on Amazon that this album had been out of print for a long time, and was only finally released about 8 years ago on CD. I will say though, I think I'll keep ahold of my vinyl version. Not only is the sound better on the vinyl (it loses something in digitization), but I like the cover of the LP more - all the covers in the new reissues are hideous. I'd rather have a traditional painting of a Buddhist diety than a Photo-Shopped picture of a whole bunch of space stuff. And that brings up one unfortunate trapping of music like this - the art that appeals to the New Age crystal-hugging clones.

This is a great, adventurous recording that can appeal to a wide array of music fans, whether it be electronic music fans, ethnic music fans, contemporary classical enthusiasts, even Doom Metal fans would appreciate the sonic treats on display. My favorite track is "The Wrathful Diety" (that is the only way I know it on the LP configuration). I see that it's combined on the CD.

And honestly, this album is also really good for meditation. Play it, turn off the lights, and focus on a candle. WOW.

1.0 out of 5 stars Loud clashing drum sounds ruin the bells, June 1, 2005

Years ago I used the original of this work for meditation.

This remastering ruins the original and in my opinion is totally unsuitable for meditation. Try Tibetan Bowls instead.

The item was returned for resale.
