Very attractive Buddhist Lotus Mala!, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Tibetan Buddhist Black Agate Beads Prayer Mala
Simply put, this is a beautiful wrist Mala. There are nineteen, 10mm black agate beads, with symbols of the Lotus flower on each bead. The Mala is well strung on red elastic thread, that will fit most wrists, with a nice authentic tie-off. The black agate, with white enhancements, on red threading, is nothing short of striking. And, the beads are heavy, with exact match in appearance, and size.
It matters not, whether this Mala will be part of your spiritual, and/or meditative practice, or whether you want to just wear it for Dharma jewelry. It is striking enough to wear often. But, if you are a devotee of using your Mala for meditation, and counting mantras (or any prayer of your choice), it is important to remember that the materials used to create Mala's offer different areas of focus.
Black Agate Mala's have been revered for attracting good fortune. The stone is a symbol of courage and strength, while offering a calming effect, when stressed. They are believed to help eliminate bad luck, creating a positive energy field.
Do I believe in the magical powers of Mala's? Actually, no! But I do believe in the power of mind-over-matter, with dedicated 'belief,' in what you are meditating on, and, about. People of many faiths and ethnicity's have relied on prayer beads to help center them spiritually for 2,500 years. I believe this would have been a practice long abandoned, if it didn't provide spiritual and meditative comfort. I know it does for me.
This Mala came from Hong Kong (through ovalbuy), so the delivery was a little slower than usual, but still well within the time specified for delivery. So be patient, it is worth the wait, and the price is a steal! I also have on order, a 108 bead Mala, and a Jade Buddhist pendant from the same company, so I have confidence in their products.

Excellent, if it weren't too small, July 23, 2011
This review is from: Tibetan Buddhist Black Agate Beads Prayer Mala
After reading the glowing review by Shiloh True, I bought 3: two as gifts and one for myself. Everything Shiloh True said is, well, true (imagine that!), or, rather, should I say, that I agree with her review? Anyway, the mala is beautiful; the finish of the beads is glossy, the Endless knot is a marvel to look at, and it has great weight (i.e. feels substantial.)
I don't know if anyone else wondered this, but in the image shown, the beads near the knot seems smaller than the ones diametrically opposite; this is a deception of the picture: all beads are the same size.
Though the beads are great, I found, as a not-terribly large guy (~160 lb.), that the mala is too small for my wrist. I often found red marks from the beads pressing on my skin. I suppose I could have undone the Endless knot and retied it, but I figured that since the string was made out of stretch material, that it wouldn't last long anyway...I was right -- it didn't take long. Perhaps about a month after my receipt, and during its removal before entering water, I managed to strip the red skin of the string, revealing the white stretch material beneath. I have not worn it since for fear of its imminent breakage, which is a shame.
On the other hand, the recipient of my gift, a petite woman, found it just perfect: a bit loose and comfortable to wear. She like it immediately and I explained to her the traditional usage as well as the meaning of the material and the Endless knot.
I would recommend this product on the condition that the wearer has a small wrist.

Beautiful bracelet, great price., October 26, 2011
This review is from: Tibetan Buddhist Black Agate Beads Prayer Mala
I wasn't expecting to receive it so soon, but I did and I was very happy to finally have found it in my mail. It came in a nice bag that I still use, and its really something, I definitely like this bracelet, just looking at it when I'm mad or feeling uneasy just makes me feel better. A bracelet is really what you make it, and to me, this bracelet just reminds me to be strong and to never let anger, a short term emotion, ruin love, a long lasting one. ;)
