Wonderful, but only if you're into 'deep voice' Tibetan Chants,

If you're really into deep voice chants, this is the CD for you. If not, then skip this one.Deep voice chants are slow and abnormally low/deep voice. It's hard to describe. Some people think that these chants may have 'harmonic healing qualities.' I don't know, but if you like Tibetan Buddhist mantra chanting, deep voice is a wonderful aspect of the sadhana. This CD is a wonderful introduction to deep voice. I love this CD. Lama Tashi's voice is deep and quite otherworldly, but I can hear and understand the words. Lama Tashi's voice is very clear. Many CDs of deep voice chanting (particularly those made by large groups) are difficult to appreciate because it's often hard to make out individual words. This is a wonderful exception. Listen to the sound clips on this site. If you don't like deep voice, then skip this one. If you want to check out deep voice mantras, this is a great place to start.

The Best Chant CD I have ever Purchased,

I have bought every Gyoto Monk and chant CD I could find and this is by far the best. Lama Tashi's voice is powerful and meditative. They VERY gradually increase his voice with his own harmonics in the chants which makes it sound like 10 of him in the middle of each chant. It is exactly what I was looking for all these years. I can see why this won a grammy. It is by far the best chant CD I have found -- anywhere. It really brings out the meditative power when you listen to this while sitting.

The Sound of the Void,
By
This review is from: Tibetan Master Chants (Audio CD)
I agree, this is the very best Tibetan chant cd there is. My previous favorites were the releases by the Monks from Drepung Loseling, but here, their own chantmaster proves that sometimes a single minimal voice resonates deeper than many.I am not the first to observe the similarities between Tibetan chant and the almost Zen state acheived by doom/drone bands like Sunn 0))). For those coming from that angle, this is a perfect document to prove the point that such bands are only channelling the deep universal OM. This is not only the best Tibetan Chant release available, but it is also one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard - truly profound. The sound of Lama Tashi's voice is that of the emptiness uncovered in meditation. Listen and live in the void.

Remarkably powerful and relaxing,

Listening to this CD is like a meditation in and of itself. I've listened to many different chanting CD's but this is the most entrancing and powerful chanting CD thus far. Lama Tashi's 'overtone' chanting is very deep and powerful. His voice is duplicated and gradually starting at various times so it sounds like there's several monks chanting at the same time! Each track begins and ends with the sounding of a Tibetan "ting-sha" bell and a short homage and dedication chant to whatever energy/deity the main Mantra is directed at.

Serious deep voice chanting,

The Venerable Ngawang Tashi Bapu, Lama Tashi, is one of the foremost masters of Tibetan chanting today. He has been the Principal Chant Master for the Drepung Loseling Monastery and is renowned for his mastery of chanting. This is a collection of a series of 12 chants, comprising a complete ritual set that runs almost one hour (57:32, to be exact). It can be used purely for listening, for learning the chants, or as a sonic version of a prayer wheel (which is my primary use). It has helped a great deal in my efforts to learn Deep Voice technique. The chants are authentic Tibetan Deep Voice - they are guttural and powerful. Be advised, this is not the light "Hare Krishna" nasal flower child stuff, it is serious, time/space warping, intense, vocal sound that can alter the vibratory state of one's energy and mind (if not physical space itself). If you are not familiar with Tibetan Deep Voice, then think of it as the heavy metal 7 string guitar of chanting - deep, layered, overtone vibrations that rattle your cage and rearrange your energy. Similar to really good didgeridu. You can think of Lama Tashi as the Joe Satriani of Deep Voice. I love it. I have had a boombox dedicated solely to playing this CD, 24/7, for several years. Since they won't free Tibet, we'll just blanket the planet in Tibetan vibes. It is the ultimate prayer wheel.

Tibetan Master Chants,

I listen to this cd most days. Lama Tashi's chanting reaches and sooths my soul. It reminds me of the chanting I have heard my own Lama do - very powerful. Remember though, this is throat chanting - deep, low and resonant. I believe in the healing and clearing power of these chants. We are blessed to have them so easily available to us.

The best of Tibetan deep voice chanting,

These deep and resonant chants will alter the vibrations in your meditation space and create healing in your mind and body. This is one of my favorite Tibetan chant CDs. As other reviewers have cautioned, however, the chants are very intense and may not be for every listener.

Unfortunately, I think my expectations for this cd were way off. While admirable, I find the deep, gutteral chants ear and bone rattling, and as such virtually unlistenable. I was expecting these chants to be relaxing and soothing, but they are quite the opposite, to my ear. I guess I'm more suited to the more melodic(?) types of chants that I've heard in the past. Please don't flame me. Everyone's opinion counts. I listened to some samples, and thought that maybe I should try it before judging. I bought this cd with the best of intentions and based on listener feedback. I'm sure I am missing the point of the type of chants in this cd, as I am not an expert or Buddhist practitioner, so I'll give it three stars out of respect.

Chants for Life and well being,

I am listening and chanting to this CD everyday before beginning the day and before retiring at night. It helps with meditation and helps with the correct pronunciation of the tibetan mantra. I've listened to many different chanting CD's but this is the most entrancing and powerful chanting CD thus far.Lama Tashi's 'overtone' chanting is very deep and combined with the text can be followed very easily for every deity. |
