This attractive package consists of an illustrated hardcover and a long, colorful Tibetan prayer flag, packaged together in a lovely gift box. While the concept of this gift combination is similar to Tad Wise's "Blessings on the Wind," this set offers a superior book as part of the package. In it, Barker presents an accessible history of the role of prayer flags, explaining the symbolism of the five colors and the customary invocations that accompany the flags. Barker's approach is practical, advising readers about the most auspicious places and times to hang their flags, and helping them to understand the symbolism of the most popular designs. The book's best attribute is its beautiful full-color photography, showing images of the flags' use in the lives of ordinary Tibetans, as well as famous lamas.

Shipped promptly, arrived as advertised. I have a set of my own and have given two as gifts. Each box comes with a book, a string of stamped flags, a string of blank flags and a marker. My most recent order went to a dear friend who lost her husband. She held a ceremony to scatter his ashes on the farm. The blank flags were laid out on a table, the book passed around and guests took time to say goodbye, and offer prayers and symbols from many different religions. We hung the flags from a tree and scattered ashes and prayers to the wind. What will you do with yours?

The flags are real and the book is great. The windhorse design conveys "the wide-reaching beneficial effects of the Buddha's teachings". You're actually getting real prayer flags that you might find in Tibet in this package. My only complaint is that 15 is too few. ;)
