5.0 out of 5 stars Underestimated album
First of, let me ask a question: what you people talking about when you rate this CD 3-stars or below? This album is much way underestimated.
Listen! I think all of you who give this album bad marks are one-track-minded peoples just like Sally in Diamond D. joint because you expected to see a '36 chambers' kinda LP from the Mef. But let me ask another question: what...

2.0 out of 5 stars Lyrics-tight; tracks- not living up to meth's standards
Meth brings the pain again and proves why he is one of the best hip hop lyricists. However, the tracks are too busy and don't flow with Meth's voice. It seems like the tracks are overtaking his voice. (Smooth out the tracks and let Meth's voice flow with some butter tracks)

But let me ask another question: what the hell is gonna happen to hip hop if ain't nobody try to make something new? Answer me please. This album is ill: just listen to 'Dangerous grounds', the Left Eye collabo 'Cradle rock' or 'Spazzola'.
You wrote there's too many skits on the album. And what's the problem with that? I think Ed Lover skit is mad and Chris Rock skit is ill... so, what you talking about? I don't feel you.
I think the whole structure of the album is ill: Pre-Millennium, space-type, Satanic, Apocalyptic, hardcore, underground .... And who the hell was gonna make it? No doubt, it was Mef aka The Ticallion Stallion. I think, y'all just can't feel it 'though this album is mad ill from beginning to end. You mad 'cause Mef made collabos with Janet Jackson, Donald Trump and D'Angelo? Eff y'all! It's still phat!
And about the productions: rugged -n- raw! Just think about 'Perfect world' (which is a breath-takingly shocking Satanic Apocallyptic Next-Millennium [or next-next-millennium] Epic), 'Judgement day', 'Cradle rock' (damn! that's off the meter!), 'Dangerous grounds' (Street rips it...).
Then another jewels: 'Retro Godfather' which bring you back to the origins, the roots with a song like we was in a late 70s or the early 80s. 'Party crusher' which is like a early 80s smoothe party joint. 'Break ups to make ups' which is a laid-back type of joint with a diss to the ex-es. 'Spazzola' with its simple piano and beat based music: very raw.
So, again: what was y'all peoples talking about when you underesttimated this LP? You was dreaming or sleeping on it? Eff it! Y'all people is intolerant and simple-minded. I only got sorry for y'all.
You must understand something: hip hop is about progress.
Let me ask some questions: what if Common ain't step up the scene while the West is overwhelmed by that gangsta image? What if Tha 'Liks ain't make hits low down the underground of the West? What if N.W.A. ain't slow down the beats with 'Always into sometin'? What if Nas ain't drop 'Illmatic' during that G-funk ruled period? What if Ras Kass ain't make no 'Soul on ice'? And what if Sticky ain't broke up with the Onyx and ain't make BlackTrash? Tell me... So???
In addition: this CD is ill! But you have to stay away from that '36 chambers' ('though that's a classic)-thing... you know? Or not?
Nevermind!
One thing: Mef ain't no mainstream! He was the one who protested against 'Gravel pit' being too mainstream. (Remember that MTV interview).
At the end: I still got respect for Mef from shoulder to shoulder and that's just IT!
Told: 4.5-stars.
One!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another One from Wu Brother #1, January 14, 2006

This review is from: Tical 2000 : Judgement Day (Audio CD)
when i copped this back when it came out, i remember being very into Wu-Tang and with that said this album is an Epic and doesn't sink like Leo's Titianic. this disc from top to bottom is method man every which way possible to name it. mostly produced by RZA & The Wu Elements (Mathematics, 4th Disciple & True Masta) and also Erick Sermon & Havoc guesting on two tracks makes this disc a worthy counterpart to Tical. With 28 tracks as a lengthly opus to starts and funny as sometimes unnessesary skits makes it a characture of itself but still keep the ship intact thou. lots of singles could of been chosen off the the album but the two main ones were "Judgement Day" & "Break Ups To Make Ups" feat D'Angelo make it a sorta purchase but what makes it a purchase is that it's just so dope as a listen that why you couldn't cop it. favorite tracks are:
Shaolin What (cuz of lex lugar line)
Judgement Day
Spazzolla feat Wu Tang Clan
Play IV Keeps feat Rebel Ins, Streetlife & Mobb Deep
Grid Iron Rap feat Streetlife
Step By Step
Killin Fields (with the warriors type of intro/outro)
You Play Too Much Skit (always makes me laugh)
Torture
Suspect Chin Music feat Streetlife
Dangerous Grounds feat Streetlife
Sweet Love feat Cappadonna & Streetlife (reminds me of one of my homegirls plus it was her fav. song)

Overall i'm give this a 4.5 Stars

4.0 out of 5 stars I Like This World!!!, July 25, 2007
This review is from: Tical 2000 : Judgement Day (Audio CD)
I remeber when I first heard this album I didnt give it a second listen. But now after hearing it again, its Method Man's best album next to Tical. Perfect World Is not a bad opener and Cradle Rock featuring Left Eye(RIP) is crazy. Dangerous Grounds should have been the first single seeing that it was better than Judgement Day. Method Man shuts it down disrespectfully on Torture and He kills an old school sample on Retro Godfather. Play IV Keeps featuring Mobb Deep, Inspectah Deck and Streetlife is a banger that was never promoted at all(and this song came out at a time when Prodigy was STILL NICE with the mic). Spazzola featuring Streetlife, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa and Killer Sin is another banger. The title track Judgement Day is not a bad single but it is a bad first single. This is a track that if you dont feel it the first time you might like it another time not a track that is going to make you get the album. Break Ups 2 Make Ups featuring D'Angelo is Method Man's story of his grimy ex-girl and its another standout. The only songs I didnt feel is Suspect Chin Music(suspect is the word) and Sweet Love feat Cappadonna and Streetlife. Plus all those skits(with the exception of the You Play Too Much skit) are pointless to say the least. Bottom Line: Tical 2000: Judgement Day is easily Method Man's most overlooked album and is his best work next to his first one. The production was great, Method Man was still nice with the pen and the guest appearances were great too. Whether you like this album or not doesnt matter but its still a hip hop album regardless, Tical O: The Prequel was pop rap so learn to differentiate the two. Standout Tracks: CRADLE ROCK, DANGEROUS GROUNDS, TORTURE, RETRO GODFATHER, SPAZZOLA, PARTY CRASHER, STEP BY STEP, PLAY IV KEEPS(my favorite), ELEMENTS, KILLIN FIELDS, BIG DOGS, BREAK UPS 2 MAKE UPS and JUDGEMENT DAY.

5.0 out of 5 stars Method Man - Tical 2000: Judgement Day, December 30, 2005
This review is from: Tical 2000 : Judgement Day (Audio CD)
After dropping his classic album in 1994 called "Tical", Meth comes back 4 years later in 1998 to drop another classic! Tical 2000 Judgement Day is upgraded in lyrics and beats. Let me explain my thoughts!

Lyric wise, it was shocking actually to tell you the truth. You sit there and listen to "Tical" and say alright Meth gots the flow the hott lyrics alright im feelin it definatly. Then you pick this album up that he released "4" years later and your like "WHAT?!!, Method Man is spitting straight fire on this album. His lyrical talents went WAY high on this album. Alot of tracks on the album, and every single one Meth doesnt F around! He drops knowledge and real rhymes! Make sure to check them out definately!!

Production wise, great beats by the Wu camp, grimey? Well let me explain. Is it as grimey as "Tical" you might ask? No its not. But grimey yes it is. More advanced types of beats, but the album has SUCH a dark feel to it, I love it. No other album can play and give me a feeling like its grimey and dark like this album does. It puts you in a trance like a dark grimey feel its nice. Its because there is no tacky club beats so its all real. Just notice this, the production is A+ awesome.

Overall, Method Man drops unspeakably hott rhymes, and the production is off the F'in chain!

My Top 5
1.Sweet Love
2.Suspect Chin Music
3.Spazzola
4.Break Ups 2 Make Ups
5.Judgement Day (A big banger)

5.0 out of 5 stars Tical 2000 is better than Tical, and this is why..., September 12, 2000

...Method Man's flow has gotten much tighter and well-timed. For example, listen to "Suspect Chin Music" to see how impeccable his flow and timing are! Meth has gone from the laid back and predictable style of Tical to this dart-sharp rhyme style. Also, "Judgement Day" is like nothing ever heard before. That, among other things, shows how branching out from Rza and the rest of the Clan, but still staying true to the Wu style can make for a bangin' album. To stay grounded, Meth invites his Wu affiliates to bring added lyrical power. My only complaint is that Meth has a bit too many skits mixed in. Press fast forward on the skits if you want to just experience the lyrical art. One.

5.0 out of 5 stars FIRST, they dropped the bomb, September 1, 2005
This review is from: Tical 2000 : Judgement Day (Audio CD)
Whoever says that this album is whack is just plain crazy. Meth brings it raw on this cd and he made me a follower of rap music because of his album. Before I basically only listened to r&b and rock music but Methodman draws you in with his goofy personality and clever rhymes. In my opinion the entire album doesn't have any skippable tracks including the skits. Out of all three of his albums, i'd have to say this is my favorite but with Meth you can't go wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars good second effort - 4.5 stars, December 17, 2004

Four years since Meth dropped his classic debut "Tical" he drops another strong album. Packed with 28 tracks (19 songs) the only bad part is the 9 skits/interludes that make a choppy listen. Production is mostly handled by Wu producers: RZA, 4th disciple, True Master, & Mathematics, with 3 by Erick Sermon, 2 by Inspectah Deck and one by Havoc of Mobb Deep, and the prodcution is good throught he album. 2 songs don't have Meth on them, and he has 7 solo's. Most of the guests are Wu related (street life is on about 8 songs, with 2 solo ones as well) except Redman, Mobb Deep, D'Angelo, and Left Eye. There are 3 songs I skip, 2 classics, 4 average songs, and the rest being good or great. A must have album for rap fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Wu's best albums, April 29, 2004
By
The Djeli (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tical 2000 : Judgement Day (Audio CD)
Getting the world ready with his solo debut in 1994, he finally conquers us with "Tical 2000". The production is well suited to his impeccable flow with the futuristic beats under a collaboration of demented strings and breaks. The dark atmosphere which haunts this phenomenally unique album is primarily a shadow over his lyrical mastery. Much like the previous year's Wu Forever project, Method Man exhibits a more intelligent perspective through his lyrics (dont mistake this for losing any street grime credibility). But of course he doesnt forget to simply get grimey like the warrior his is. It's hard to compare this album to anything else, because in trust, there's nothing really like it. In contrast to many previous Hip Hop albums which maintained the general image of Hip Hop, Method Man evokes an actually personality as the concept. Not simple enough to just be "thug" or even "scientific". Almost as if he is an escaped General from an army in the future where science and horror are at war and he is has traveled back in time to tell the tale.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Tical, August 6, 2000
This review is from: Tical 2000 : Judgement Day (Audio CD)
This cd is pretty tight, but I would admit that it isn't as good as Meth's debut album, Tical. Yes I would have to say it's about 4 and a half stars, but doesn't quite meet 5. The number of tracks makes up for some of the fillers on this cd. Actually, there probably were only 3 or 4 fillers and that's it. But 28 tracks is quite a bargain. I don't know how they could fit all of that into 74 minutes, but they did. But, there were some really short tracks-a skit after every song just about, and the shortest track known to man-Sweet Love (skit). 4 seconds long-they say "the problem with all of us is we have to do it with the body, not the mind, man". And that's it and it goes to Sweet Love, a very good song. The best tracks on this cd are Cradle Rock, Dangerous Ground, Spazolla, Torture, Snuffed Out, Grid Iron Rap, Big Dogs, and Make ups 2 Break ups...you should buy that single too...for Make ups 2 Break ups. It's a breakthrough hit! What's even better is BLACKOUT, Meth and Redman's new project. Hopefully they do another one like that!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Surprising, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Tical 2000 : Judgement Day (Audio CD)
I lost a little respect for Method Man when he became so commercial and began hanging out with Fred Durst and all, so I was a bit skeptical to buy this CD. It blew me away. I loved the original Tical and expected this one to be much weaker, but it wasn't at all. Meth comes out harcore once again with head-bangin' beats that continue play through my head all day long. There's an amalgam of guests that all increase the quality of the album.

My favorite songs were Cradle Rock, Dangerous Ground, Sweet Love, and of course Judgement Day. There were many others that I really enjoyed as well, I just can't remember the names. Method Man really surprised me with this CD, so I recommend buying it.
