God I love this book...,
By Brian (Oot) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Tick: Mighty Blue Justice (Paperback)
I love The Tick. The Tick is keen, which is why this book is so neccesary for anyone who fancies themselves a fan of The Tick.Starting out as a comic book (which it still is) The Tick was then turned into a television show on the famed Fox kids network. Unfortunately, the genius behind the Tick was apparantly big on procrastination, never having episodes ready on time. This prompted the cancallation of the program, but I'll always still love it. Even 5 years later, it remains one of my favourite shows of all time. There was so much humour that I never got when I was little. But now, I pick up on the jokes that I never understood when I was a child of the tender age of 9. Anyways, this book collects the plot of 34 of the 36 shows released before it's cancellation, a guide to becoming a superhero, info on finding a sidekick, the Tick's origin, interviews, and even "Arthurs Section Of Scientific Facts So That This Book Can Legitimately Be Read In School." There is a guide to other superheroes, supervilians (including the Man Eating Cow who just so happens to look like and act like a normal cow), and the list of questions and answers that were often read and replied to at the end of the shows. This book left me in stitches laughing the first time I read it, and even now it remains one of the funniest books I've ever read. It's not conventional humor, but it remains oh so funny. If you like The Tick and wondered why it was taken off the air, and if you can't get enough of anything Tick, then you need to get this book. This is probably the only book I can read that remains as funny the third and fourth time through as it is the first time... Midnight Bomber Sez: So he says, "You wanna' be a bad guy?" and I says, I says "Yeah baby! Surf's up Space Ponies! I'm making gravy without the lumps! AAAHHHHHAAHHHH!" (note: If you're still searching for your fix of the Tick until the start of the live-action show, check out the Canadian cable station "Teletoon" (Ch. 45). They air it weeknights at 9:30 pm. How keen is that?

MY MUSTACHE IS TOUCHING MY BRAIN!,
This review is from: The Tick: Mighty Blue Justice (Paperback)
Wow! What a great companion book to a great series. Every major (and minor) character is fully revealed in this exhaustive work. Plus, you get many, many quotes and "soliloquys" from the brain of none other than The Tick. There are many hilarious sections in this book, including 1. How to choose a good sidekick. 2. Advice on wardrobe. 3. How to turn your home or apartment into crime fighting headquarters. 4. Good examples (superheroes) and bad examples (supervillains). 5. Episode guides, taken from Arthur's diary. 6. Letters to The Tick. You get all of this, plus tons of keen pictures. And best of all, this book is 100% evil-free! This book is an absolute must-have for any fan of the series. It is the ultimate souvenir from one of the best cartoons of all time. There is a new live-action series in the works which I am very curious to see (I hope they don't mess everything up!) Until then, READ A BOOK!

oh KEEN!,

Okay, folks, if you know who The Tick is, you want this book. If you don't, you NEED this book to figure it out! We are talking here about the defender of The City, the Mighty Blue Salmon of Justice, the inveterate nice guy THE TICK. Fox, understandably, dropped the show (the writer, also the writer of the comics, was a tad slow on his deadlines), but his adventures can live on in Mighty Blue Justice. Learn how to describe yourself in superheroic terms! Learn how to battle deadly evil (and how to identify it!)! Learn how to talk in exclamation points! And learn how to outfit your keen superhero headquarters on the budget of a part time accountant! All this and Die Fledermaus await you, citizen!

If you are a Tick fan, you must get this book! It includes an episode guide for most of the shows, a transcript of the Tick and Arther interview, and discribes each super hero and villian. It also tells the history of how the Tick won the right to protect The City and much, much more. All done in the form of a scrapbook kept by the Tick. Get it

This review is from: The Tick: Mighty Blue Justice (Paperback)
However, my cat did get at one corner and chew it up in one of her chew-toy phases.....Here, collected into one shiney red volume, is nigh-everything you needed to know about the Tick. All of his wit, wonder, and convoluted logic. Here also is Arthur's angst, American Maid's shoe specs, the occasional appearance by the always well-groomed Die Fladermaus, and a liberal helping of everyone's 2nd favourite super-villain, the Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight. Of course, our favourite villain is the Man Eating Cow, but she doesn't talk. The book is full of illustrations and little bubbles with useful Tick-isms. There are bios on all the Tick's superhero friends, as well as his supervillain nemeses. Most helpful is Arthur's casebook, chronicling his and the Tick's adventures battling crime in The City (this is essentially an episode guide of the animated TV series). Unfortunately, there is little new here that isn't in the TV shows. However, it's a great book for the coffee table, one where you can start and stop reading anywhere and find something funny. Anyone entertained by the show will definitely like this book.

Spoon!,
This review is from: The Tick: Mighty Blue Justice (Paperback)
I just got this book two hours ago. I think it is the best Tick book ever written. This book also has keen little ditties like an episode guide(except epsiodes 34-36),the profiles of all of the super heros the Tick has worked with, the villians he beaten up. It is also has the little things like chapter 1 when the Tick show up at the super hero convention, and the radio interviews with Rick and Roger. My favorite super hero besides, the big blue one is gotta be the Sewer Urchin. I am out like Little Wooden Boy.

Inspirational,

There's no other way to put this book than "inspirational." It made me want to fight crime and make corny puns. With the section on how to become a superhero, at least one of those was made easier.

The nearly perfect guide to the Tick TV animated series,
By Johnny Unusual (fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada) - See all my reviews

Greg Hyland (of Lethargic Lad fame) did a great job on this hilarious book that has a nearly complete episode guide, a list of heroes and villains and hero lessons in this awesome book. Greg Hyland did great work and knows how to get a belly laugh out of me. Only Ben Edlund himself could have done it better. Great book for fans of the animated series. The only problem is that they should have waited for the series to finish so they could have a more complete book.
