Third Season; single episode,

If you are a fan of the Tick, then this is a good video for you. There are 36 episodes of the Tick all told, though, and this one is in the bottom 25%. Of course, there are only 2 The Tick videos released, this one and The Tick vs. The Idea Men. If you are looking for the other 34 episodes I'd recommend writing Comedy Central and complaining or downloading them from Gnutella.

A MUST SEE,

This review is from: The Tick - The Tick vs. Arthur [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is the episode that introduced "Speak", the Tick's furry sidekick. This is also the episode that sent tens of thousands of high school students running across the school yard yelling spoon. This is 30 minutes of harmless entertainment. No cursing, no graphic violence, or useless sex scenes. It is a film that is not only suitable for all ages, but also fun for all ages. The Tick, in general, is the funniest series around and I recommend that one should watch every episode that was aired. Also, if you enjoy the cartoon as much as I did, please email and write Fox televion and ask them to continue the series.

The Tick is comedy genius.,

The Tick came out as a TV show when I was a freshman in high school and I used to watch it with my dad every Saturday morning. We both loved it. The Tick is pure comedy genius, both the comic book and the TV show (probably because Ben Edlund had a hand in creating the TV show). A parody of super-hero comics was long overdue, and The Tick is the perfect parody. This episode has one of my favorite tickisms, "Okay, Mr. Knock-everything-over, that'll be just about enough of that!" It also has the unbeatable tickism where Tick accidentally calls Speak a dog (after learning that he's a rodent) and he is so apolgetic (this probably isn't exactly right) "...you're a big, lovable rodent. And if that's your lifestyle choice it's okay with us." I will harrass Comedy Central and Fox Network to release all of the episodes on video. I would especially like to see "The Tick vs. The Big Nothing", "The Tick vs. The Tick", "The Tick vs. Dinosaur Neil", "Little Wooden Boy and the Belly of Love" (the one where Arthur meats Carmilla) and the one where he gets "Speak" (The Tick vs. the Amazons, maybe?) We deserve it! I also loved it in the Chairface Chip'n'dale episode when Chairface is lowering The Tick, Arthur and American maid into a crocodile pit and as it's fading to a commerical you hear Arthur yell, "You jerk!" Hahaha! That was great! Anyway, enough "Tick talk".

Confession: I bought it for myself!,

OK, so I bought this video under the auspices of giving it to my kid, but I really wanted it for myself! The Tick is one of those 'kids' cartoons that has a lot of humor that sails right over the young'n's heads. The Civic Minded 5 makes a hilarious appearance and The Tick's obsession with a rodent he mistakes for a dog is classic Tick.

How could one not like The Tick??!! He's Big, he's blue and he's a superhero. With his trusty yet somewhat frumpy sidekick, Arthur, The Tick patrols The City to combat evil-doers and stop their evil ways. The Tick Vs. Arthur is The Tick's ultimate test. He is confronted with an out of control wickedly evil Arthur and has to tactfully control his crazed sidekick. I give it 2 Blue Antenne Up!!

The Tick: Big Blue Comic Genious For the Family,

The Tick is a 400 lb. animated Super Hero offering an offbeat comic genre. Adults and children will enjoy the half hour program. The Tick vs. Arthur is quite humerous, but look forward to other episodes that are flat out halarious, such as "Little Wooden Boy and the Belly of Love."

This video is still getting mileage from my college age sons, years after we bought it to add to the collection of three Tick videos we bought when they were youngyoung and watching the TV show in the U.S. Compares favorably with all the old Jay Ward cartoons... it is as accessible to adults as to children. We are a Tick-loving household.

You can't go wrong with any Tick episode. This one rocks! Arthur gets huge! The Tick takes off the kid gloves! A pure joy.

Season 1 - Mickey Dolenz as Arthur,
By
This review is from: The Tick - The Tick vs. Arthur [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I haven't seen this DVD for sale until now, but I will mention that after the first and best season, creator/writer Ben Edlund left the show as well as the actor Mickey Dolenz (of The Monkeys fame) who did Arthur. Townsend Coleman remained great as the mighty but simple-minded Tick, but the second season was much more silly as the Chameleon character took over Arthur with a less deparate and more wimpy voice, and the plots made no sense. No wonder it was cancelled. The first season is however classic, funny and original through and through. I love Sewer Urchin and his Dustin Hoffman Rain-Man delivery "o bad, very bad..." and Die Fledermouse: "Fight? Crime? oh, please!" My fave eps are "Superhero Club aka Tick vs Tick", "Tick vs Mr Mental" and "Thrakazog from Dimension 14B" with a great voice by someone who sounds just like Tim Curry:Cloned Arthur: "I Arthur" Tick (with bad cold): "ohh...and I Tick!" From the first episode, where an off-camera interviewer asks Tick if he has a girlfriend: "I am MIGHTY!...We don't have TIME to be charming!" (Avoid the live-action version that was mercifully short-lived.) |
