The beauty of this is that it captures all of the Ticket to Ride "universe" on your computer. This means you can play TTR anywhere and everywhere your computer can go (well, if you have a laptop, otherwise it sits in your home office).
I don't need to hope I can convince my family to play (though they enjoy TTR). If I want to play "solo" I can simply play offline on my own. And if I want to play with others but no one is around? You can also connect to other users on-line! Good stuff!
The other cool part is that now, if we want to, my fiance and I can connect and play while one or the other is traveling. And that, to me, is the beauty of it. It's the beauty of quality time/family time of a board game that I can have even when my family isn't here physically.
The basic concept is that you build railways from one location to another, building a "route" that will connect from one end of the board to the other depending on what route card you pick. It's that simple. It IS simple, but addictive.
One thing to note is that this REQUIRES Steam. You will need to setup a Steam account and download the client to be able to play this. Steam is used as a limited form of copy protection but also performs the duty of on-line match making. I don't mind Steam, but if you do, don't buy this set.
Highly recommended for fans of TTR. Recommended for board game fans.
For whoever has played the original board game - the PC version is nicely implemented with intuitive menus and easy to use controls. There is solo mode (with pretty bad AI), pass the computer mode and online mode. You will find yourself mostly playing the last one, taking part in ranked games and climbing up the Hall Of Fame wall. If you have never had experience with any TTR games, you can search on Google or Youtube to see how the rules work.
Of course, there are few things which can be improved - like being able to see how many locomotives a particular player uses to build a road, what is the color of a road after being claimed, how many cards your opponents hold (it shows 8+ if there are more than that), etc. However, you will never feel frustrated with the game and if you loved the original, you will definitely enjoy this one as well.
All in all, if you are able to control yourself and limit your play-time, I highly recommend this bundle. Good luck!
It is easy to choose which variation to play, and there is a solid tutorial and complete instruction manual included in the game for those unfamiliar with the board game. I actually saw this played on Table Top (youtube) before deciding that I wanted to find out more about it. By playing the PC version of the game, also available for smartphones, I was able to determine that I loved it, and bought the board game version to play with friends as well.
The nice thing about getting this for a computer (or smartphone) is that you can play this excellent board game in a few minutes on your own using the computer players, who offer a reasonable challenge, especially as more players are added. This also makes an excellent way to practice the board game in preparation of playing with friends.
In all of my playing (dozens of games), I've only encountered two issues:
- An occasional, very rare, crash
- If you go to select a train car (card) anticipating your turn after another player has activated the "last turn", it will continue selecting that train car (card) even after the "This is the last turn" box is shown on the screen. Which means, you won't really get a last turn. [I turned on the "double-click to select" option to mitigate this issues.] Having lost a game due to this bug, I found it rather annoying, but hardly a show-stopper.
Again, I recommend this for anyone who enjoys board games and doubly recommend it for anyone that has already played and enjoyed the table top version.

Doesn't play well, stalls, graphic display is grainy, didn't get too far in the first one before I uninstalled it. Glad it wasn't all that expensive.Published 17 months ago by Nocturnal
