My sketching pencils are triangular in cross-section and I like them. Now Ticonderoga, who really define "school pencil" with the famous school-bus yellow paint and green top make triangular pencils for writing. The only complaint is that erasers these days are hard, nasty and leave orange marks. Why the fine art of eraser manufacture has been lost escapes me, but pencil erasers are horrible. Buy a separate eraser for the job.

This is a complete shame. A beautifully designed pencil, but the manufacturer treats it with Microban. Make your own decision about whether this is an issue for you - but I will not buy every day use products treated with long term anti-microbial chemicals. Check the manufacturers website where they divulge more info about each of their products. Some people hold pencils in their teeth occasionally, is that safe with microban? As of writing this review, Amazon does not post the info about Microban. Dixon Ticonderoga uses it in many of their products. What a complete shame to ruin otherwise wonderfully designed pencils this way.

Ticonderoga makes a great pencil. I like these #2 tri-write pencils because with their triangular design, they don't just roll off the edge of a work bench or board when you set them down. They also tend to stay in place more securely when set behind the ear as well. These are normal sized triangular pencils, not the really big triangular ones that kid's use in the classroom.
I've tried the pencils that Staples sells under their name, but they are cheap Chinese junk made from soft, poor quality wood with leads that break constantly when you write with them and even when you try to sharpen them. The eraser on them is also some cheap waxy rubber compound that smudges more than it erases. I ended up using them for kindling in our Chiminaya this summer. I'll be sticking with name brand pencils like Ticonderoga from now on.

I bought these pencils because I have twin boys with fine motor troubles and were having a hard time writing. I had thought about buying regular pencils with those triangle jelly pencil grips until I saw these. These work great and don't have the distraction of the grips.

They are exactly what I was expecting. I will be buying more when we run out. They are a quality product not like some cheap pencils I've seen.

I thought I had discovered the perfect combination of triangular pencil without the too-large size of the Tri-Conderoga, but then the Tri-Write proved to be very difficult to sharpen in my mechanical pencil sharpener. The pencil leads kept breaking despite my taking every care. I'm going to stick with the basic black hexagonal model and maybe try the Mirado Black Warrior.

I use this for my students and like them much more than cylinder-shaped pencils. The triangular shape helps young kids hold it better and develop a better grip. The shape also stops them from rolling of the table which is a big problem in a classroom with young kids since they're always having to dive under tables/desks to get their regular pencils. I highly recommend these for 5-7 year old kids!
