Pretty Parrot,
By
This review is from: Tico's Book (Hardcover)
Tico, an engaging pet parrot (half moon conure) narrates his story from Texas birthplace to new home near Baltimore, Maryland. Daily adventures (and some misadventures) with Tia Tica and Bill are described by Tico who likes to sit on their shoulders and concludes that he is a very lucky bird.
The lively text is enhanced by vibrant color pencil drawings on pastel pages. Informative and humorous, this delightful book will entertain both children and adults.

What an absolutely charming book for older elementary students to older adults! The illustrations absolutely bring this mischieveous little bird to life. What child could read this tale and not enjoy Tico's experiences, from spilling and breaking, to bathing and knowing how lucky he is. The reader will be just as lucky to enjoy an upbeat book that brings a smile , a giggle and sense of identification.

Tico's Book is a realistic story about living with a small parrot.,
This review is from: Tico's Book (Hardcover)
I received my copy of Tico's Book yesterday and enjoyed reading it immediately upon arrival. The color pencil illustrations of Tico are wonderful, and very nice as far as capturing the expressions and emotions you see living with a Half Moon conure. I live with several species of parrots, and one thing I have dealt with is the little guys are probably the hardest to keep safe! As mentioned in the book, conures are related to macaws though they are very small, and they think they can go everywhere with their people and do everything, like a big macaw would! So this book shows many of the hazards that exist living day to day with such a small, personable but active parrot.
Often preteen children (AND adults!!!) who bring these little birds into their homes aren't immediately aware of all the dangers that can exist for a small conure, so I thought this book besides being charming and beautiful was very educational and hopefully will prevent a lot of accidents if new young bird owners read it. To me, small conures are one of the best bird companions, as long as you dedicate yourself to their daily needs and keeping them safe. Tico's personality really comes out in this book too...that he talks about his favorite person Bill with comprehension and likes to preen his beard early in the morning; that he likes to yell as loud as he can when he is given the command to spread his wings like an eagle; and that the one time he had a harness put on him he disliked it so much he refused to move, so he never had to wear it again! Tico's character is perfectly shared in this book, a great gift for any parrot lover.

Adventures of Tico the Invensible,

This review is from: Tico's Book (Hardcover)
What a gem of a children's book that educates and entertains children and adults alike. Tico's Book is a real life story of the selection, care, and adventures of a half moon conure parrot. Laugh at the though of finding lost Tico, for which his family has been frantically searching, cold but safe, taking a nap on top of a jar of jelly in the refrigerator. Just as your smile begins to fade, you learn Bill, who has been entrusted with Tico's care, is trying to revive Tico from an incident, before his wife arrives back home. The colorful illustrations by the author are delightful. Tico's book operates on so many different levels it is one of thoes special books that has universal appeal.
