From School Library Journal
Grade 7-10-- Initially, readers are plunged into a textual recreation of what being hit by a tidal wave would be like. Then some of the most destructive waves of the last 100 years and their devastating effects are described. Wave generation, causes of tidal waves, plate tectonics, and the Tsunami Warning System are discussed in clear, nontechnical terms. High-quality full-color photographs and diagrams appropriately illustrate the text, and large type and wide margins make for comfortable reading. The useful glossary and index are accompanied by a list of recommended reading. Clemon's Waves, Tides and Currents (Knopf, 1967; o.p.) devotes several pages to tsunamis and covers the basics, but does not discuss plate tectonics in depth and the black-and-white illustratons are not as striking.
