Everybody in the officating world knows that a Fox 40 whistle is the ONLY one to buy. So for you fellow officials out there (and coaches) you can skip this one. For the rest of you: Fox 40's are not "new" as the ad discription implies. They simply are not mass market and not what people think about when they think of whistles. They think of the often-times big, clunky, metal ones with that cork "pea" in it. Others do come in smaller sizes and are made of different materials. But there's one thing they have in common... they all have that cork thingie. That thing that gets stuck in the chamber and also causes the whistle to sound lame. Fox 40 whistles have been in use for years by Referees and other professions where an audible signal needs to be heard regardless of the surrounding noise- high school gym, football arena, etc. Other occupations benefit from its EXTREMELY loud signal, like traffic police in the middle of a busy intersection, for example. The chamber design allows air to flow through it in some "space age" way, or whatever. That's why you shouldn't ever blow it directly into someone's ear. Anyway, now that you're initiated go ahead and get a couple. What's great about Amazon is that you used to only be able to get these from Officiating specialty shops. It's about time they hit the masses.

We use these whistles for our leaders in our church ministries. Raising voices and yelling to get kids/teens attention isn't something we want to do. A whistle is a good way to get kids attention, start and stop games, etc. The best whistles we've used, easy to sanitize each week, loud and no ball in the middle to get messed up.

Pitch is not the low one I envisioned. I wanted low/deep, this is annoying midrange. Gave away the two I got. Still looking for a whistle that doesn't make my ears bleed...
