More About the Author

Since growing up as an only child in Manhattan (when she was sure she was the only child in Manhattan), Alexandra has known she would be an author. She's been reading romance since the age of ten (under the covers, with a flashlight, of course) and started her first book (a Regency romance meets Akira-style anime) at fourteen. After a brief dalliance with the legal profession, Alexandra now writes contemporary romance with "clever, snappy dialog."

Alex (or Alexandra, as her friends call her) likes writing books about strong-willed women and tough, impenetrable alpha males. Her best-seller, Tide's Ebb, is just one of the stunning works of fiction that is bursting out of Alexandra's head.

She lives in Newport, Rhode Island with her husband, two adorable twin boys, and an evil cat named Kate Middleton.

The story is about a boogie Lawyer who feels her love life is moving in the right direction. She has the perfect man, the perfect job and the feeling of being fulfilled until it all crashed down when she discovers her perfect man isn't so perfect after all. The broken hearted Marianna has to figure out a way to overcome her heartache while on a special project in Rhode Island. After an accident Marianna is saved by Larry, the big belly prude that's set her life into perspective. She is disgusted at him because he does not flock to her whims and also she is intrigued by Larry personality. She hates and wants him at the same time; the pull between the two emotions sets a new perspective for her and she finds out who she really is.

I found this book interesting and was able to read it in one sitting and it was completely different from most of the books I read.I enjoyed the fact that Larry was just an around the way guy. Not over the top sexy but an average guy with flaws but still masculine, with a demand of respect and sexual prowls that all alpha males have. The best friend Suzanne was fearless, reckless and fun and I loved that about her. I have never met anyone as stuck up as Marianna but hey I know that there are people like that out there LOL. Screech is the man of the hour by request only. Every woman would want a pocket screech to use at their discretion. Let's admit it; sometimes we can be as bad as the men. Last but not least, the author exposed a reality that some of us are unfamiliar with. Sometimes you never know someone. It doesn't matter how many years you have been with them those deep hidden secrets remain hidden until you stumble upon them and your world is crashing down around you. Bradley was just crazy sexy as hell but CRAZY!

I really enjoyed reading this fun little spoof of the kind of romance novels you might see collecting dust in the back of K-Mart. The entire tone of the book is so silly, light hearted, and very similar to certain writers of The Onion. The humor is a nice balance of being accessible and esoteric. The characters mostly play it straight and it almost feels like you're watching an Airplane or Naked Gun movie as you read. I'm telling you, this book is stuffed full of gags. In fact, the humor is spread throughout so generously, I feel like no matter where the story goes or what subject it decides to focus on, it is always thoroughly entertaining. Overall, I really had a good time with this one. The gags are heavy-hitters and frequent and it wasn't too long or too short. If you plan getting a copy, don't be hesitant if you never read a cheap romance novel, I never have and it didn't bring me any problems understanding the humor or story! Pick up a copy!

I've come across a lot of books lately that are parodies of novels like the Fifty Shades books and the Twilight books, and while some of them are amusing, mostly that it because of the clever way they make fun of the source material. Almost all of them, after a chapter or two, just seem sort of labored because there's not much to do once you've made fun of the underlying book. Well, "Tide's Ebb" certainly makes fun of romance novels, especially the more graphic and explicit ones, but it is funny and entertaining on its own merits. It bills itself as "a filthy-mouthed satire of romance, sex and the legal profession...", and that pretty much hits the mark. (By the way, the first chapter has our heroine placing Harvard commas, or serial commas, in a legal brief under a time deadline. It's the funniest send up of legal research minutiae I've ever see. But, the quote above should be "...romance, sex, and the legal..." if we are to observe Harvard comma conventions.)

Anyway, this is a sly and sometimes brutally funny work, with plenty of shots sent out in every direction, some fairly graphic. While not much is out of bounds, though, this isn't hit you over the head humor. Some of the best lines are sneaky-funny, and there are lots of one-liners, throwaways and snarky observations to keep the reader entertained. The author obviously has a fondness for the genre and respect for its fans, so you end up with a sort of Don Rickles feeling - "I kid! I kid because I love." Or maybe not; maybe the author hates us all. But it doesn't matter, because it's still funny. (The "Click to Look Inside" feature has a pretty generous sample, so you can decide for yourself if this book suits you.) For me, it was a happy find.

Please note that I found this book while browsing Amazon Kindle freebies. I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.

All Marianna wants is to find someone to love and we get to join in on the fun. If you're expecting to find your typical romance story all full of romance and mushiness and beautiful endings, you will be disappointed. If you're interested in a delightfully crass, fun read that will have you laughing and shaking your head at Marianna's exploits, then that's what you'll find in this book. I definitely recommend it for the sheer fun of it.

This was the biggest load of bull, I have ever read.
Absolutely, utterly ridiculous.
Definitely not a romance.
Do not read.
