I loved this book and can't say enough wonderful things about it. Perhaps that's because as a woman who experienced the sorrows of World War II, I found the stories hit so very close to home. Life was very different then and Tracie Peterson has perfectly captured that in her 4 wonderful stories. She could have been writing my own story in #3. I hope everyone gets a chance to read this treasure. Now I'm off to read Tracie's Long Awaited Child.

I am a huge Tracie Peterson fan but these four short stories (novellas) were too shallow and predictable for me. Since it is Christmas the stories were relevant, and since we have servicemen and women overseas the stories were certainly poignant. However, I think the third story was my favorite and one which could have happened to any couple in love and impatient during a war situation as Tracie wrote about WWII. That one, alone would get 4 stars, the others would not.

This is a good collection of novellas. The common theme is WW2 and Christmas. There are 5 sides of serviceman relationships here. First is a story about a returning vet, who has to deal with survivor guilt. Second is a story about a man stranded who thinks that his girl may have found someone else AND a man back home who has somehow never been drafted. Third is the story about the impulsive marriage that leaves a young woman alone to give birth to their child. Lastly is a story about two people who put off getting married until they finally decided the war was too great a risk not to get married.

I enjoyed each of the stories, but the relationships were left hanging. You don't really know what happened--did everyone make it back alive? The only story you get some kind of closure on is the first one, and only then because you are able to pick up the clues in other stories.

All in all, it's a good book, but I wouldn't buy it---I would borrow it from the library.

"Remember Me," begins with First Lieutenant Erik Anderson fighting for his life as he struggles to free himself from his parachute after being shot down in a round of enemy gunfire.

Through intelligence, luck and an unrelenting faith, Erik struggles to find his way to safety as his true love, Mary Ann, who is back home, battles temptations of her own.

"Shadow of His Wings," focuses on the special relationship between Melody Thompson, a young pregnant woman, and widow Ginny Williams, whose son is off at war. When Melody's untimely pre-marital pregnancy leads to rejection from her own family and the war separates her from her husband Collin soon after they marry, Ginny steps in to provide moral support.

Through an unusual twist of events, Ginny is able to reunite Melody with her family, just in time for a reconciliation and a celebration.

In "Parachutes and Lace", Red Cross Volunteer Clara Campbell is planning a quick war-time wedding, when her fiancée, Michael Shepherd receives notice that he is shipping out. Having always dreamed of a proper wedding, Clara longs for the perfect gown. When last minute plans for a "parachute silk" wedding gown falls through, Clara learns an important lesson about priorities and in return is pleasantly suprised.

This book is one that I like to re-read every so often. My favorites are the second and third stories. They really get the reader involved in the characters' lives. I like adventure in a story, and these two novellas have enough to satisfy me. I am especially interested in the aerial aspect of WWII, so the third is thrilling for me. The first story is also good. It's more of a tear-jerker than the others. I wasn't as thrilled with the last story. It's sweet, but it wasn't one of my favorites. But over all, this is a wonderful novella collection.I recommend this book to anyone interested in both the military and civilian sides of WWII.

This was one the best I have read!! I dearly love anything that Tracie Peterson writes. I could not put this down until I was finished. I hope she writes about WWII again.

I have been an avid Tracie Petterson reader for ages and I was really disappointed with this book. The storylines were not that believable and you definatly need to leave reality behind when you read this one. There is no way that people are going to fall in love within an hour of meeting one another. I was really disappointed with his one. I couldn't get through it quick enough and even then it was too long.
