Love this thing. Sound strategy to tackle significant problems usually involves "divide and conquer". This box does that with your cat's waste.
We have used standard litter boxes, the
Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box, Large, Green and Beige , the LitterMaid -electric box
LitterMaid LME9000 Elite Mega Advanced Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box , the litter box planter,
Hidden Litter Box (20" x 20")and now this. The Tidy Cats Breeze Litter box out does them all by not only changing the way you collect the waste, but also changing the litter you use. These two changes, in my opinion, make it more environmentally friendly, easier to maintain and much more tolerable when you must have your litter box within your own living quarters.
Pros
+ divides and conquers the solid and liquid waste allowing for easy and timely removal (solid waste tends to sit in plain view so you don't have to dig for buried treasure)
+ can also be used with Pine Pellets instead of Tidy Cats clay pellets (perfect size)-> pine is a natural urine odor eliminator. I followed another reviewers advice and I couldn't thank them enough! When urinated on- the pine pellets kill the ammonia fumes and turn to sawdust. A gentle shake of the box allows the sawdust to fall through to the tray below, allowing the solid/dry/unused pellets to remain on top. We use these
Feline Pine Original Cat Litter, 20-Pound Bag, following the same directions as if they were the clay pellets.
+ can also be used with generic chuck pads instead of Tidy Cats pads. If you purchase these, you can cut them in half and they are the same size as the Tidy Cats pads:
Champion Blue Disposable Underpads (Chux), 17 x 24, Case/100 (4/25s) . Note: When using pine pellets, the pad in my tray is only really used to collect semi-moist saw dust. I'm not sure these would work as well with the clay pellets.
Cons-
- tray doesn't always slide as easily as I would like it
- there is no bottom under the tray- so if the tray is full and you spill it- it's going on your floor
- box is not as discreet as I would like it (see the hidden litter box link above)
- the litter pellets will never be as soft on your cats paws as clay/sand <-- I think this made our cat somewhat reluctant to switch.
- I still find pine pellets around the house here and there- but if they're dry, I know they're unused and can be chucked back into the box !
**The combination of this box used with the pine pellets has left us with NO urine smell- I never thought I would see the day! Sure, she drops a stinky load every now and again, but that doesn't stick around for long ;) Get this box, it's great!
