The Originals,

This review is from: Tierra Gitana (Audio CD)
The "Gipsy Kings" are pioneers and troubadors who exposed the world to something old with a twist, pop flamenco. Not to be confused with pure flamenco this hybrid is exotic and a nice blend that creates something new. This is one of their best CD's altough all of them are solid. Their formula may have reached a saturation point but the music speaks for itself and is still good. The guitar playing is excellent and the vocals are passionate. At times the songs become repititious but there is enough diversity to hold most people's attention. Their harmonizing vocals coupled with their virtuosity on guitars is enough to entertain even the toughest of critics. This is an excellent choice that captures la familia Reyes at the height of their creative talents. Add this to your collection of nuevo flamenco and enjoy the easily accessible music. Some of the best numbers are purely instrumental and follow the more traditional lines of flamenco music. Without a doubt the " Tierra Gitana"CD continues to sound fresh years after it's release. Often immitated, never replicated los gitanos play a nice version of nuevo flamenco that is joyous. Guaranteed to lift your spirits when you are down, this is the epitome of happy music, a celebration of life that is infectious.

Estralles,

This review is from: Tierra Gitana (Audio CD)
Tierra Guitana is a brilliant release. Standout tracks are: A Ti A Ti, Mujer, Pajarito and the beautiful ballad Mi Corazon. The instrumental songs are all very good too. The Euro version is different from the US version. The most noticable difference is that the title of the Album is not the same. The name of the US release is Tierra Gitana, named after one of the instrumental tracks, but the name of the Euro Album is Estralles. Estralles is another instrumental track. The Auro release containes the very beautiful Forever, which is an instrumental song, but the US release containes the equally good Los Peces en el Rio. Both Albums very recommended.

"Rhumba-flamenco a' grande...again!",

Tonino Baliardo is an INCREDIBLE flamenco guitarist on this CD - Let 'Siempre Acaba Tu Vida', or, 'Tierra Gitana' bring you to tears...As well, Nicolas Reyes' strong, raspy, voice can't help but take you to Cordova or Sevilla or Madrid - or under the cobbled streets of Zaragoza with Spanish wine at your table in any of the warm, Cordilleran nights... These are the guys you want to listen to when your blood is running passionately. Go ahead, tap the steering wheel and the dash in your SUV - I do.
