4.0 out of 5 stars The Originals, November 16, 2000

This review is from: Tierra Gitana (Audio CD)
The "Gipsy Kings" are pioneers and troubadors who exposed the world to something old with a twist, pop flamenco. Not to be confused with pure flamenco this hybrid is exotic and a nice blend that creates something new. This is one of their best CD's altough all of them are solid. Their formula may have reached a saturation point but the music speaks for itself and is still good. The guitar playing is excellent and the vocals are passionate. At times the songs become repititious but there is enough diversity to hold most people's attention. Their harmonizing vocals coupled with their virtuosity on guitars is enough to entertain even the toughest of critics. This is an excellent choice that captures la familia Reyes at the height of their creative talents. Add this to your collection of nuevo flamenco and enjoy the easily accessible music. Some of the best numbers are purely instrumental and follow the more traditional lines of flamenco music. Without a doubt the " Tierra Gitana"CD continues to sound fresh years after it's release. Often immitated, never replicated los gitanos play a nice version of nuevo flamenco that is joyous. Guaranteed to lift your spirits when you are down, this is the epitome of happy music, a celebration of life that is infectious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Estralles, June 16, 2001
This review is from: Tierra Gitana (Audio CD)
Tierra Guitana is a brilliant release. Standout tracks are: A Ti A Ti, Mujer, Pajarito and the beautiful ballad Mi Corazon. The instrumental songs are all very good too. The Euro version is different from the US version. The most noticable difference is that the title of the Album is not the same. The name of the US release is Tierra Gitana, named after one of the instrumental tracks, but the name of the Euro Album is Estralles. Estralles is another instrumental track. The Auro release containes the very beautiful Forever, which is an instrumental song, but the US release containes the equally good Los Peces en el Rio. Both Albums very recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Rhumba-flamenco a' grande...again!", November 11, 2003

Tonino Baliardo is an INCREDIBLE flamenco guitarist on this CD - Let 'Siempre Acaba Tu Vida', or, 'Tierra Gitana' bring you to tears...

As well, Nicolas Reyes' strong, raspy, voice can't help but take you to Cordova or Sevilla or Madrid - or under the cobbled streets of Zaragoza with Spanish wine at your table in any of the warm, Cordilleran nights...

These are the guys you want to listen to when your blood is running passionately.

Go ahead, tap the steering wheel and the dash in your SUV - I do.
Going to work was never so much fun...!

Tierra Gitana is a beautiful, powerful, and brilliant body of work. The Gipsy Kings are incredible musicians that play straight from the heart. I really appreciate the emotion, energy, and flow of this cd. It's a highly moving journey from one song to the next. Tierra Gitana is a winner, good times, I hope you enjoy it to the fullest...

4.0 out of 5 stars Seriously has a driving beat!, November 22, 2000
This review is from: Tierra Gitana (Audio CD)
I like to start the album on track two really loud. It seems really intense, almost spiteful and is the perfect way to start a party. La Rumba de Nicolas is another song on the album that just gets you moving and you want to sing along to...unfortunately, I don't know the words and they're not included. The other songs are more tame but still hip and something to pack suitcases to. I confess that I am not knowledgeable about the Gipsy Kings in general, but I do know that this is an album that has captured my heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best soothing, July 10, 2001
This review is from: Tierra Gitana (Audio CD)
This is the album I bring out when my mom is in pain. The guitar is fast yet soothing and helps her pain. She likes the leads voice, its very soothing and she soon feels better and falls asleep. A great album when your stressed out. Its a relief from your everyday world. Gypsy Kings is great medicine!

4.0 out of 5 stars I was impressed, August 6, 2001
This review is from: Tierra Gitana (Audio CD)
This is the only gipsy king record I own, so I can't compare it. What we get here is a blend of rumba, flamenco, pop with some very raw, raspy vocals. The production quality is top-notch and the songs are pretty well varied, I tend to prefer the faster paced songs. My faves are the ultra catchy "a ti a ti" and "siempre acaba tu vida" and "la rumba de nicolas". Check this one out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but..., November 27, 2002

This is my latest Gipsy Kings CD. I will be the first to say that it is a very good CD, but it's not quite as good as the other three I have. There's maybe two tracks that I really like on this one (compared to five or six on Gipsy Kings). Certainly a good CD, but I like my others a little better. This is not to say that you should not get this one, because it's still a really good CD.
