Book Description

Heather Huffman, author of Kindle Bestsellers Throwaway and Jailbird, delivers a romantic comedy of friendship, love and family ties in this vibrant city adventure as a fiercely independent yet vulnerable woman with a weakness for shoes - and sexy British accents - forges a new path that will leave her forever changed.

Kate Yager never had a father, and she never minded - until her mom died. Now, acting on the name called out on her mother's deathbed, Kate has moved to San Francisco and gotten herself hired by the man she suspects to be her dad. As if a new job, new apartment, and new parent weren't enough, Kate finds herself head-over-heels in lust with a complete stranger she met at an art show. A stranger who, she later finds out, happens to work in her office.

As her relationships with her friends and father grow stronger, Kate has to confront the decisions of her past to find out whether she can love the man who gave her up, love the man who loves her truly, and even whether she can love herself.

Don't miss Heather Huffman's other books: "Throwaway", "Suddenly a Spy", "Jailbird", "Ring of Fire", "Tumbleweed", and the newly-released "Devil in Disguise"!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great characters January 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This a little different than other Heather Huffman novels I have read so far. It is more about Kate's internal struggles than anything else. Kate is lost after her mother dies so she moves to a new city to go looking for her unknown father. The instant attraction she feels with Gavin scares her based on past experiences and she tries to keep her distance, but Gavin is patient, persistent, sweet, caring, and makes her laugh. There are a lot of twists in the story, both things from the past and in the present, and Kate has a lot of issues to work through. I enjoyed the story. Gavin is a great character and I love the banter, especially about the age difference!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE This Storiy December 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I do not read books twice if I've read it once I know what is going to happen, but I'm working on reading this book for the 3rd time. I love Kate and Gavin and I love the story. This is definitely one of my favorite books hands down. It is a great easy read that you will not want to put down. Heather Huffman is a wonderful writer. I've read all of her books and have enjoyed each of them. I look forward to reading more of her books as they become available.

3.0 out of 5 stars would have liked it more IF... March 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The writing and overall story is fine but I felt that it was a bit heavy handed with its moral messages to the reader. This is christian fiction that was not noted in the description. There are things to like about this book but I really was annoyed by the writers intent that actually went against the characters she created. For instance, her 34 year old protagonist decides that she wants to have an abstinent relationship with her younger artist boyfriend. That is a fine desire but it is not really explained why they would want to do this? Again, I am not saying one should not but it was not a supported idea for the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars hated to see it end March 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I can't really add anything to the other reviews, except to say I really enjoyed this book. It just goes to show if you have a good story line you don't need a lot of profanity or graphic sex. The story will stand alone. Bravo!

4.0 out of 5 stars sweet March 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was my first book by the author and I liked it. Kate overcame alot of obstacles and was rewarded with a very likable Gavin as the hero. It was a little slower paced than I like and it was sweet that they 'waited' until after they got married. I really liked Gavin's character and would have loved to have met him myself. I downloaded this book as a freebie and I will probably try this author again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Live To Read June 4, 2012
Format:Paperback
Before her mom died, Kate Yager didn't miss having "family". Feeling lost and alone, she's decided to move to San Francisco and begin a new job. She loves the job, loves her friendly co-workers, and finds she's falling in love with another new hire, British Gavin Nichols. Kate also suspects that her new boss is the father she never met. Next, throw in a scary, stalker named Justin and a serious car accident....and you have what sounds like a really improbable, overdone plot. Huffman, however, combines these dramatic moments into an enjoyable, believable read.
The humorous dialogue between Kate and Gavin when she realizes that he is younger than her is fun to read; the way Huffman later incorporates it into Gavin's courtship for her is touching. Situations such as when they enter a salon to give each other a new hair style caught my attention. I might try that with my husband for fun. Gavin seems a perfect impossibility - a great-looking, thoughtful, sexy, considerate, funny, family guy; yet, every reader will want a Gavin! Huffman even makes the situation with Kate's father seem understandable. First, there is shock and uncertainty. Later, there is a desire to try to have a relationship, even if it is thirty years late.

2.0 out of 5 stars Has promise but didn't really deliver the goods March 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
During the first few chapters I thought this would be a good easy reading page turner. As I read on, I was put off by key unexplained plot issues, implausible character reactions and a benign romantic relationship that really needed to be fulfilled. The author had to introduce an unexpected and unbelievable trauma to bring the story to a conclusion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not her best book. September 6, 2011
Format:Paperback
I read this book, then read "Jailbird" and was shocked it was written by the same author. Although I enjoyed both, I found too many things in "Ties That Bind" that weren't all that realistic or true to life. I do highly recommend "Jailbird", also by this author and plan to read her other two books. I don't know if it was, but after reading "Jailbird" I wondered if "Ties that Bind" was her first book as "Jailbird" was much more polished. Perhaps she knew her subject matter better in "Jailbird" as it came across more realistic.
