The change was good!,
By Sheila (Columbus OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ties that Bind Way Down Deep (Paperback)
I read the book. I enjoyed it very much. It was a different pace from the other "love" stories that I've read, but the change was good. My kids kept interrupting me while I was trying to finish the book and see what the ending was. I was a little disappointed at the ending, but overall it was a good read. It kept me anticipating what was going to happen. A real page turner. I'll recommend to my friends.

Definately a New Kind of Novel,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ties that Bind Way Down Deep (Paperback)
Thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I like reading novels which deal with characters who are dealing with 'life', good and not so good. Life situations is what this book presented. Not everyone was happy or content and there were some real issues presented by this novel. I could almost feel the pain Kaj experienced when he recounted the story of what severed his relationship with Rodney. Likewise, I could understand how Dana's childhood experiences caused her to be the person she was in the novel ( i.e., no makeup, baggy clothes etc). The author should be commended for fully exploring and developing these issues and the impact it had on the characters. Although some may feel that this is a love story in the traditional sense, I felt that this was a story about the ultimate love, which is self love and ultimately self acceptance. One of my favorite parts was the dialog between Kaj and the homeless man which I felt was the heart of the novel. Although much easier said than done, we have to let go ( or resolve) the past in order to live in the present and the future. Finally, I also loved the the dialog between Kaj and his mother just before Xmas dinner. Good read!

This Book Was Too Deep for Words,
This review is from: Ties that Bind Way Down Deep (Paperback)
This book is definately all that. The story flows and the characters are so real. I felt like I was there. Monique takes you on a journey into the lives of her characters and you just can't help but follow. I will be looking forward to reading more books from her. This was one of the best books I have every read and I do read a lot or books.

Working Mom Finds Time,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ties that Bind Way Down Deep (Paperback)
Unfortunately, I don't find much time to read. Most of my time is spent raising my children, taking care of home and working an extremely busy job. However, I am so glad that I made time for this one - it was well worth it. You know what they say, you make time for the things you enjoy. I will definitely make time for Monique's next book, and the next one and the next one.........

Well Developed!,
This review is from: Ties that Bind Way Down Deep (Paperback)
This was a wonderful story with well developed characters. The author kept me biting the baited hook wondering what Kaj's secret was. It's amazing how our fears become our cross to bear. The issue with his sister was definitely a welcomed twist! Kaj was the epitome of a man and the story could definitely warrant a sequel. Maybe they could meet somewhere and reunite?

GREAT READ!,

What a great story!. With every page, I kept wondering what was next. The author's writing style of this piece of fiction was very different but a "good" different. I enjoyed the interaction of the characters and the message that was being sent. I couldn't figure out the deal with Kaj and Rodney but the author did her homework and wrote a fine story! For anyone looking for some good fiction that's not just he said, she said, pick this one up because your curiosity will get the best of you until the last page!

Finally, a book that deals with the effects of our childhood,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ties that Bind Way Down Deep (Paperback)
Ties that bind is unique in that it deals with the strong and at times traumatic effect that our childhood can sometimes have on us as adults. The story, like most, starts out slow. I use the analogy of an "old school car". It takes a while to warm up but once it gets going you don't want to get out! I was drawn into Dana and Kaj's lives by their realness. They could be our friends, brother, sister, father, mother or mabye they're us. Ties that Bind will make people look deep into the effect that their childhood rearing has on their development as an adult. As we quickly learn from Dana and Kaj's lives, our family ties can make or break us.

An excellent story,

The ties that bind us can be really deep. Things that we hold on to can affect us for a lifetime or for so long you just can't get beyond them to go on sucessfully with your own life. That's what happens with Kaj and Dana, too many skeltons, they are so bound they are having a difficult time moving on. I have read Ms Gilmore romance novels and enjoyed them all. She is now writing fiction and I see she is the same strong writer. Ties that bind was a job well done. I will definitely look for more from Ms Gilmore-Scott

Finally, a book that has some reality to it!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ties that Bind Way Down Deep (Paperback)
I could totally relate to the characters and the area/time that this book was written. I grew up in the area of where Kaj and Dana lived and met each other. Every chapter was so real, that I could almost picture every scene in my mind. In reading this book it truly depicts the reality of childhood upbringings and the impact that it can have on present relationships. I felt like Kaj and Dana were a part of my life! Mrs. Scott's writing is so visual and tangible. I must admit, I will be waiting to find out what happens next - hopefully a sequel? With this being my first book written by Mrs. Scott, I have yet to discover others... |
