Date and Time,
By James (Detroit, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tiesto In Concert (DVD)
When this came out, it was way ahead of it's time. No other DJ has done this since, especially on this scale. In a world that flips almost once a year you cannot critique track selection. If you missed it, you missed it...it was progressive at the time. The second "concert" was no where near as good. This had the "around the world" theme and mixed in "world" music interestingly. I bought this in '04 and was blown away. If you have never seen it, I think it is probobly still worth watching despite the fact some of the tracks might be worn out by now.

More like a circus,
By Oliver Heaviside (Europe) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tiesto In Concert (DVD)
Having listened to all of Tiesto's mix albums over and over (and over!) and seen Tiesto many times, I was excited when I saw this on the shelves, and bought it right away.
What's great about Tiesto mixes in general is that he goes from song to song and you don't even know he's doing it, and he keeps lifting your spirits higher and higher. By the time you get through an album you fill like a million bucks. But not this. I think he tried too hard at this concert -- he brought in a bunch of performers and dancers and (it felt like it anyway...) clowns. He basically tried to pull off too much, and frankly it felt more like a circus than a DJ show. The music was similar. Too many styles, even when spread over three hours. When I want to listen to Tiesto live mixes, I'm back to listening to Magik mixes. This DVD is gathering dust. I may even give it away.

One of a kind!,

Words can simply not describe this incredible concert that took place on May 10, 2003....but here's a little info. Dj Tiesto gives an extreme set and covers just about every angle in this brilliant performance. The DVD captures a significant 200 mins(Plenty to leave you breathless) of the actual performance which was about a 7-8 hour set. An extra DVD is included with 95 minutes of Bonus material such as the Traffic Music Video, TV commercials, the Making of, etc. Any true fan of dance music will truly appreciate the time, effort and dedication that went into the making of an event of this magnitude...Camera's do a great job of covering different angles of Tiesto, the crowd and throughout the whole Stadium in which the concert was performed. 25,000 fans sent into a musical journey around the world with stunning visuals, effects and especially lighting effects which were completely amazing..! Throught watching the DVD you will fall into all sorts of high's that the "Journey" sends you on which will leave you with goosebumps shivering down your spine! Live performances By Andain, Dinand and The Lady of Trance herself miss Jan Johnston (and more)...makes you truly appreciate the quality and consideration to make this a wonderful night to remember..A definate recommendation for anyone who appreciates good quality music from the worlds #1 DJ! Events of this magnitude don't come around too often...do yourself the favor and check this DVD out!

An audio and visual masterpeice,

I have been waiting for this DVD since the day it was announced, and boy was it worth the wait. Simply put, this is the best thing to ever be incorporated with dance music. Everything about this DVD is just amazing. The track selection is outstanding (everyone comlains that there is too much from Nyana. Belive me, they fit the DVD perfectly). For anyone who has not experienced a live performence from a top DJ, this is the closest you are going to get. The way tiesto works the croud is amazing. The lighting is supurb. The effects are amazing. I really have no complaints about this DVD however, this a part with terrible lip singing, but thats in the beggining and quickly forgotten). If you like trance music, this is what it is all about. I actually watched the thing for the full three hours straight. I could not pull myself away. So if you like this type of music, take the 20 dollar hit and enjoy. Trust me, you will love every minute of it.

THE SONGS ARE NOT LIVE FROM THE ACTUAL CONCERT,
By highduke (T.O, CA) - See all my reviews

I'm surprised that only one reviewer has noticed this. Where is the sound of the crowd roaring? This is cd quality music from start to finish with no crowd roaring. But if that's what they wanted, then why release it on DVD? I'd watch it much more often if it had the original concert soundtrack. As far as the concert itself: the performers they featured between sets was a little too much; they were more like clowns. Another thing I didn't like is that you don't see much of the anyone except Tiesto. He's in 90% of the scenes. Why? We know it's his concert; it isn't as if devoting much more of the footage to the kids attending the concert would've confused anyone. This is why I'm not giving it 5 stars.
Visually - this DVD is absolutely stunning. I didn't mind the camera angle changing every 2 seconds. The best part of the concert is when Tiesto gets to the middle of Nyana. The combination of the stage effects at the climax of that song, together with seeing Tiesto just lose himself was incredible.

Nice but not that nice,
By B. Nizette (Canberra, Australia) - See all my reviews

To start off with, let me just say that I think the track list on this is great. It does have a fair bit from Nyana, but Tiesto put on an 8 hour concert and he has to draw his music from somewhere! The 3 hours that were picked out for this DVD, while great music, probably could have been done better. The whole concert was very contrived with Tiesto "travelling around the world" with each couple of tracks. For example, when he got to America, he played a few seconds of "The star-spangled banner" and some break-dancers came on stage. While this would have been great if you were there, on the DVD it only serves to interrupt the flow of the thing. Also, I felt the camera angle flicked around too much with a whole lot of long-distance sea-of-black-with-illuminated-DJ-booth-a-light-prick-on-the-horizon shots and not enough, in my opinion, of the close-ups of the crowd and the DJ that would have made you feel more like you were there. In short, a solid 40 tracks if you aren't going to look at the TV, a good atmosphere if you are going to look, but nothing too special.

Excellent.....but...,

I bought the second in concert dvd first because it was the newest one out there. I wanted to make sure that the tracks were still realtively fresh. I was totally blown away by it so I got the first one. Although there is more content to the dvd the second concert destroys this one. It's just to outdated. Both discs have some excellent material, the second one just has the better track listing.

Great music and effects,
This review is from: Tiesto In Concert (DVD)
I enjoyed this DVD a lot, it makes you feel like you are really there. I loved the music, and I liked DJ Tiesto's personality. The special light and fire effects are very impressive, and the "journey across 5 continents" idea for this concert worked perfectly, I love the world music component of this show and the way Tiesto interacted with the bands was so fun to watch! Things I didn't like: the opening for the dvd was super slow. It was designed as a big buildup, but I don't think it worked. And I also thought Micha Klein's video art was too simplistic, too much like a cartoon, it did not match the mood created by the music and seemed to try to make a statement of its own rather than support Dj Tiesto's work.

Great Event, but Great DVD?,
By
This review is from: Tiesto In Concert (DVD)
Definitely the DVD has inspired me to attend events like this in the future. I'm sure that attending this event would have been an awesome experience. But the incredible live experience does not translate into an amazing DVD experience.First of all, the event was an eight hour set but the DVD only captures three hours of it. Secondly, people who buy trance CD's and DVD's expect non-stop, continuously mixed music, but this DVD is not 100% continously mixed. Tiesto stopped the music a handful of times during the performance to introduce special guests, etc. The host butts in during these breaks with "let's hear it for the DJ," and other stuff that is really annoying for the home listener/viewer. However, the only breaks in the music are the ones that existed in the original show. There are not many shots of individual crowd members; almost all of the shots are broad shots over the entire venue or close-ups of Tiesto and other people on stage. This makes it better than PVD's "Global" DVD which had crowd members breaking into the music with "PVD is amazing" type remarks. About 1/3 of the tracks are the same or similar to tracks on the Nyana CD. I think Nyana has a better track selection. If you are not looking at the TV screen then there isn't any reason to choose this DVD over the Nyana CD. For the same reason, I would play the video of this event at a party with the sound off, but I wouldn't play this DVD's audio for three hours straight through a party (that would be absurd for almost any DVD). You can see the work of the VJ in the background of the stage shots. There are no "for DVD only" animation or mixed into the stage footage. Similarly, there are no "out of venue" segments mixed in like on PVD's Global DVD. It is 100% live camera work trained on the concert. The stage, lighting, and background video work that you see in the DVD are very interesting. I am pretty sure that the DVD viewer gets a better shot of the cool stage lighting than the people in attendance. I did not watch the second DVD so I won't review it.
