5.0 out of 5 stars Really great collection of songs
Tiffany's biggest hit no doubt about it was "I Think We're Alone Now," but she is so much more than that one single. If you didn't follow her career after the first single you might want to check out this collection. "Radio Romance" and "Mr. Mambo" are upbeat songs that will give you that happy 80's feeling in an instant. "Feelings of Forever," and "Back in the Groove"...

versus
2.0 out of 5 stars The 2 stars are for the compilation NOT the music...
I have heard every single song that appears on this album and like most 'greatest hits' compilation it's a bit shabby.

The Good:
It includes "Mr. Mambo"- this was one of the b-sides on the 12" single of I Saw Him Standing There"

There are two songs (Here In My Heart and Back In the Groove) from her 1990 out-of-print "New Inside" album...

4.0 out of 5 stars For A Better Greatest Hits, Search For "All the Best", December 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tiffany - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is a decent greatest hits package, but a bit disappointing if you know more about Tiffany's music. For one, "Back in the Groove Now" and "Mr. Mambo" are pretty poorly deserving of slots on this album. It might be hard to search for it as it was released only in Japan, but "All the Best" is an awesome greatest hits package with two great rarely heard Tiff tunes, including one she co-wrote. By the way, search "We Will Follow" on this site and you can find a great new Tiff cover of U2 called "New Years' Day." As for the disappointing Deb fan below, don't hate. If I must compare, I will say that Deb is good fun, but I do think Tiffany is more genuine and equipped with a lovelier voice. But I respect your right to disagree, of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE!!!, August 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tiffany - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This album is unbelievable! I cannot fathom how a person could belt out a tune like Tiffany. I am breathless after her first word on "I Think We're Alone Now" - and it is all uphill after that. I find myself crying after listening to her second #1 hit, "Could've Been". Her voice brings you into a whole different world! It saddens me to think that people consider her a "has been", seeing as she has potential to become the greatist diva of our time.

Whether you're listening to one of her two #1s(I Think We're Alone Now and Could've Been), her two more top tens(I Saw Him Standing There and All This Time), her top-40 hit(Radio Romance), the rare b-side(Mr. Mambo), or any of her other outstanding songs, you will be eternally greatful you bought this treasure!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pop music at its best, January 25, 2003

This review is from: Tiffany - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Since Tiffany has made a comeback with "The Color of Silence" in 2000 we can hope that this "greatest hits" album was premature. It was compiled and released in 1996, at which time as far as the general North American public was concerned Tiffany's discography consisted of her popular debut album "Tiffany" and her second album "Hold An Old Friends Hand." In fact the only songs on this album not found on those two are "Back In the Groove" and "Here in My Heart" from "New Inside" (her third album which sold poorly), and "Mr. Mambo" which was originally released as B-Side to the single for "I Saw Him Standing There". There are no songs from "Dreams Never Die" which was only released in Japan. Nevertheless this is a great album and one of my favorites. It starts with Tiffany's very popular rendition of "I Think We're Alone Now" and concludes with "Could Have Been Me" which are perhaps her two best songs. It also includes her excellent rendition of Lennon/McCartney's "I Saw Him Standing There". It is also digitally remastered, and in my opinion makes a great addition to any CD library. It represents the best of '80's pop music.

4.0 out of 5 stars 80's Teen Pop At Its Greatest, December 14, 2002
By
This review is from: Tiffany - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Right along with NKOTB and Debbie Giobson, Tiffany dominated the late 80's with pleasent teen pop tunes. Although her fame only lasted about 2 years, she still managed a lot in that time period. Tiffany's debut album went 4x platinum *quite an accomplishment back then* and yielded two #1 singles. "I Think We're Alone Now" *the remake of the 60's pop tune* was just about perfect and Tiffany sounded great on it. "Could've Been" was the other #1 and I rank it as one of the best ballads of the 80's. Tiffany pulls it off wonderfully. She also pulled off another top 10 hit from her debut "I Saw Him Standing There" which is also represented on here along with a minor hit "Feelings of Forever." Then in 1988, Tiffany released her sophomore album "Hold An Old Friend's Hand." The album wasn't as successful as her debut, but it was by no means a flop. It went platinum and gave Tiffany the top 10 hit "All This Time" which is right up there with "Could've Been." "Radio Romance" was also a hit cracking the top 40.

It may not be right calling this a "Greatest Hits" seeing as how many of the songs were never hits, but even the non-hits are fairly good. "Danny" is a nice piece of ear candy and so is "Hold An Old Friend's Hand." They both fit in well with the distinguished singles. Although Tiffany didn't have the hits like other teen pop acts such as Debbie Gibson or the Backstreet Boys or even NKOTB, but she still had an incredible voice and this collection shows that she really was talented for her age.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 80s Princess of Pop, June 18, 2005
This review is from: Tiffany - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Listening to this album always makes me annoyed that Tiffany didn't become a bigger star than she did. She deserved so much more than being just a one hit wonder. I was couldn't have been more than four years old when Tiffany launched herself into the public eye in 1987, but I have a vague memory of watching her perfom "I Think We're Alone Now" on Top Of The Pops. But I discovered Tiffany late in life, when I got online in the late 1990s and searched for 80s music to add to my MP3 player's playlist. Eventually I bought this album, and I think it's the cutest, funniest, bouncy, retro, and most infectious CD in my collection. I listen to it often, especially when I tire of modern music with songs that are filled with graphic and endless references to sex, drugs and killing with unimaginative and repetitive lyrics and beats. The main reason I enjoy 80s-early 90s music was because, for the most part, it didn't take itself too seriously and was just simply nice and entertaining. As music should be.

Anyway, this album is a must have if you like the 80s pop sound. There's a good selection here, a perfect balance of upbeat funk and slushly ballads. The ballads are beautiful, Tiffany sounds very good in the slower songs. "All This Time", "Danny", "Could've Been", "Here In My Heart", "Feelings Of Forever", "Back In The Groove", and "Hold An Old Friends Hand"
are the slower numbers and they are all wonderful. Tiffany proves that she can hold a tune, and the lyrics are very pretty while keeping that simplicity that I love. "I Saw Him Standing There", "Radio Romance", "Mr Mambo" and the infamous song that made and broke her, "I Think We're Alone Now" are the faster tracks and I have no complaints here either. Even "Mr Mambo", while incredibly silly, is just flat out FUN. In fact only in the 80s could've a song like "Mr Mambo" been producted! This album has perfectly captured the feel of 80s music (my only complaints are that two of my favourite Tiffany songs, "Kid On A Corner" and "Johnny's Got The Inside Moves" aren't included, they would've been lovely additions to the album), so if you are also a fan of the genre I strongly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great voice!, January 28, 2003

Peter (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tiffany - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Tiffany since her debut cd, which i am proud to say i still own. Her debut cd was recorded when she was only 14, and for that age i found Tiffany's vocals to be amazing. Some people criticized her for sounding nasal, but she has a raspy character to her voice that shines on her ballads. Her ballads are her strongest numbers, and altogether her voice is more suited to ballads than songs like "I Saw Him Standing There", which is borderline cheesy. The song "Mr. Mambo" is a piece of garbage that totally ruined a cd that i almost rated five stars. Why she even chose to record that song is beyond me. I seriously doubt that Tiffany even wanted to do that song in the first place. Probably industry pressure made her sing it. Tiffany all but disappeared from the music scene through almost all of the 90s, but happily returned in the new millenium with a new career and an amazing cd that just blew everyone away that had written her off as a washup. Her new cd The Color Of Silence is nothing short of perfect. The critics gave it great reviews, and Tiffany showed everyone that she is a true talent with a great voice. Working with some of the best producers and song-writers in the business, Tiffany's The Color Of Silence is a not-to-be-missed cd. Unfortunately, it got little radio play, but for those who search it out it's a classic. Her new style and acoustic sound is being compaired to Alanis Morrissette, but personally i think Tiffany is head-and-shoulders above Alanis and has much more class. Tiffany, i'm glad to see you're back on the music scene. Your voice and talent was too strong to go into retirement. Welcome back!

4.0 out of 5 stars TIFFANY- A Teen Queen's musical summary.87'-90'., November 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Tiffany - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is a great addition to any die-hard TIFFANY fan's collection. Her signature hits are here as well as some hard to find stuff. As a whole it isn't really all that impressive as a great showing of treasureable pop or top notch production quality. But that last part isn't the fault of this wonderful red-head. Tiffany's voice sounds very impressive on cuts like"ALL THIS TIME","HOLD AN OLD FRIEND'S HAND"," and "FEELINGS OF FOREVER". But the catchiness and wondermunt of those and a few others are completely lost on songs she should've said no to. "Mr.Mambo" and "HERE IN MY HEART". The last one is a great song and was written by diva songwriter-Diane Warren. But the vocal arrangement is a bit overpowering for the sentimentality of the song. This cut is from Tiff's ill-fated 1990 release-NEW INSIDE. A effort into the dance genre, this muttled set had potential but fell victim to poor songwriting for some songs and an overall poor production quality. Although one shining grace from that release is on this greatest hits collection. "Back In The Groove" is a nice tune with a 1950ish style and showing that Tiffany can be a bit sexy with her voice and delivery. It is very easy to hear why the teen queen left the airwaves. But her earlier tunes are very pleasing. "I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW","RADIO ROMANCE","DANNY-her frst single in 87' though it didn't do to well-" and more. So if you liked bopping along to these late 80's hits and misses, this collection will do just fine. But I do suggest looking at her web page Tiffany.org for her overseas releases and other greatest hits collections. They show her voice is strong and true and powerful if given the right material and producers. Another clear revelation-Tiffany came across even on record as a regular gal just wanting to sing-nothing more. Where as her rival of sorts DEBBIE(DEBORAH)GIBSON seemed to want to be the queen diva of such queen divas as MADONNA or JANET JACKSON. Tiffany was real and accessible. That was her appeal. Along with undeniable vocal talent and great red hair!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brief but successful career as a hit-maker, April 18, 2011
This review is from: Tiffany - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)

Tiffany still records music and performs live, but she will always be remembered for the hits that she recorded in the late eighties. This compilation covers the period 1987 to 1990 and includes all her British and American hits from that period, as well as several singles that failed to chart and one track that wasn't released as an A side single.

The album opens with Tiffany's biggest hit, I think we're alone now, which was a cover of a sixties song by Tommy James and the Shondells. Tiffany's version became a number one hit on both sides of the Atlantic; the original version had been a huge hit (but not a number one) in America, yet failed to chart in ?Britain. Tiffany's other American number one hit, Could've been, became a top five hit in Britain . Her gender-adapted cover of a Beatles song, I saw him standing there, became a top ten hit on both sides of the Atlantic. All those tracks originally appeared on Tiffany's eponymous debut album, together with Danny (her debut single that failed to chart) and Feelings of forever (a minor hit on both sides of the Atlantic). Both of those tracks are included here.

Tiffany's second album (Hold an old friend's heart) sold well enough without matching the success of its predecessor, but its singles were noticeably less successful. The first single from the album, All this time was a top ten hit in America and a minor hit in Britain. The follow-up, Radio romance, was a top twenty hit in Britain and a minor hit in America. It was to be Tiffany's last hit in the main pop charts in either country.

The music is in some ways typical pop music of the era, but while I don't like everything from that period by any means, I find this compilation very appealing. The most popular tracks here are also my favorites (though not necessarily in the same order). I have not followed Tiffany's subsequent career closely but I was pleased to see that in 2011, she released a country album, which I hope to hear one day. Meanwhile, this album reminds us of her brief period as a teenage pop star.
