3.0 out of 5 stars Bad Packaging
The UV protective filter came in a ziploc bag. Looks like a used/returned item! The filter also has dirt and a scratch on the metal ring! On the other hand the Polarizer filter was packaged well and in a Tiffen filter "wallet". Now I have to find Amazon's complaint department to see what can be done with the UV protective filter :(

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiffen 77mm Photo Twin Pack, November 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought the Tiffen 77mm Photo Twin Pack Polarizer And UV Protective Filter just to have something to cover the front element of my lens.

My reviews are not full of tech terms and percentages. I don't tell you how many lumens it took before image quality broke down. If that's what you are looking for, I would suggest [...]. I try to write it in terms that anyone can understand. My test criteria was simply: put the filter on the lens; point it at a dark scene; pan towards the sun. When I noticed flare or ghosting, I quit.

The UV filter. You get what you pay for, and this is no exception. In the grand scheme of things, this is not a high quality filter. But it is a good filter, especially when you consider what you paid for it. I seem to get more flare and am a bit more prone to ghosting with the filter in place, than without it. However, pointed away from any bright, contrasty, source of light, it does it's job, and does it good. I keep it parked under my lens cap, and use it most of the time while I'm shooting for fun. I take it off when I need to be sure of the shot.

The CPL (Circular Polarizer). Again, you get what you pay for. But this time you get a little more. While not a professional filter, it does a darn good job. Fantastic for the price. It does tend to add to the flare and ghost factor, but keep in mind, this filter only works at right angles to the sun. So that should take care of the flare and ghosting issue.

On the down side of the CPL. It may be just this filter that I have, but it seems a little difficult to get started on the lens. And it does not take many turns to seat (about 1.5). This makes me a little nervous about dropping it, or it falling off. Again, this could be my lens. Secondly, it's rotation is rather stiff. In fact, I have unscrewed it while trying to adjust it. Lastly, it tends to make the sky a bit too dark, or blue for my liking. But that could be just my taste, and is easily avoided by paying attention when I adjust (rotate) it.

All in all, very good value. If you are looking for bang for the buck, this is it. If flare and ghosting matter to you, save your money and go for the professional line of filters offered by Tiffen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good general use filters, August 8, 2002

I bought this really for the circular polarizer, since I already have a UV filter. The UV filter and the circular polarizer set seems to be of pretty good quality and a good value. Other circular polarizers cost at least 50% more.

The downside is that the filters do not seem to be coated in anyway. Doesn't seem to be a big deal with the circular polarizer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Like the Product - Not a Fan of the Distributor, March 17, 2007
I ordered this product for my new Nikon D200 camera. The product was at a fair price and arrrived quickly.

This shipment is supposed to contain two components - a clear UV protection filter (mostly to protect the lens) and a circular polarizer filter (to help make the sky bluer and reduce reflected light).

HOWEVER, the state it arrived in was shocking:

1) Half the shipment was missing (the circular polarizing filter was not present)

2) The UV filter wasn't in its original Tiffen protective packaging, but was instead floating around the box loose in a plastic bag.

3) Product had clear scuffs and scratches.

It would appear to me that the Tiffen product is good. However I cannot recommend J&R (and therefore Amazon) as a good source for buying this particular product. It arrived in a shocking state and is being returned.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 Thumbs Up, December 25, 2011

I was actually only looking to purchase the CP filter, but when I saw this bundled with a UV, for just a few more bucks, I couldn't pass it up. So far, the pics I've taken with these filters have turned out great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great deal, July 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This twin pack deal (less than $70 when I wirte this) is awesome.
Both filters arrived in perfect condition and shipping was fast.
The only (minor) downside was that only the Ploarized filter comes with a protective pouch. The UV filter was wrapped in tissue paper inside the box.
I still give it a 5 star rating because of the great price point.

4.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for, June 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been a fan of Tiffen filters for a while and have always found them to be pretty good. There are some who insist on expensive filters and that cheaper ones distort your image, but unless your rig is over $5000, I doubt you'll see any difference. (Good article showing amount of image distortion: [...]
My only qualm with this is (like others have said), it is a two-pack of filters, but the case only comfortably holds one. The polarizing filter comes wrapped in tissue paper and in the case, but the UV filter is just in a plastic bag. Granted, if you're like me, you'll probably just leave the UV filter on all the time and it won't be an issue.

4.0 out of 5 stars expected better, April 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Excellent quality Tiffen polarizing filter after disassembling and cleaning the dust between lenses. UV filter has good quality and uniformly coated. Today it seems that no one has heard that a laminar flow hood should be used to assemble or repair lenses to keep them clean until packaged.
