5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute essential for any who seek to research the Tiger and its crews., March 21, 2010

This review is from: Tiger in Action - Armor No. 27 (Paperback)
"Tiger in action", Armor Number 27 of Squadron/Signal Publications, is a 49-page, picture and fact-filled book on the Tiger tank. Color is by Don Greer and illustrations by Perry Manley. Thanks to them for producing such a fine book. It is primarily about the Tiger I, which is the version most people think of and recognize as the Tiger. It contains information and pictures on the Tiger II 'King Tiger' as well, in both cases having extensive details, photographs, and illustrations. It covers the complete history of the Tiger I and II, from the beginning and development of each tank to the days when both were all but extinct in Europe. From the book: "The reputation of the Tiger was legendary, and, for over two years, there was no other tank that could match its firepower, protection, and performance." That says it all. The Tiger was a tank so feared, Allied tankers were known to have bluntly refused to attack it, and certain Allied commanders forbid reports of its morale-wrecking power and armor. Its crews were the handpicked best of the SS and Wehrmacht, and they pushed the Allied nations to the very limit in their efforts to defeat the German war machine. This book tells the story of the Tiger I, Tiger II, and their variants with unparalleled completeness. It is dedicated "To all who fought in the Tiger and to all who fought against it". So is this review. If you are intending to write a report or book on the Tiger yourself, or simply looking to learn more about it, I urge you to buy a copy of this book. I cannot possibly recommend it more.

Great OVERVIEW of the Tiger series of tanks including the initial production Porsche hull, Tiger II King Tiger, (Porsche and Henschel turrets), Elephant, Jagdtiger, and Sturmtiger. Plenty of black and white photos, 2 pages of full color renderings of each variant and helpful 1/72nd scale line drawings for most variants.
