5.0 out of 5 stars Very Worthwhile
I read about this book in Newsweek Magazine and when I went looking for it saw that it was part of a series called Zentrepreneur Guides. After reading Tiger Heart Tiger Mind I was hooked on its style and message and have ordered the other books looking forward to their arrival to my door. This book is not a touchy-feely self help selection, rather it is a what have you...

2.0 out of 5 stars A pretentious pile of platitudes
I'm a huge fan of The Republic of Tea. Their products are the best I've ever found.

I even own the other books written by Ron Rubin and Stuart Avery Gold, the "Minster of Tea" and the "Minister of Travel," respectively, for The Republic of Tea. Success at Life, Dragon Spirit and Tea Chings are all inspiring, interesting books.

But there's something about Tiger Heart, Tiger Mind that struck me the wrong way.

For one thing, it's merely a reprise of the previous books. If you like the Positive Mental Attitude (the "your altitude is determined by your attitude") approach to life, there aren't many books better. Rubin and Gold are the best at combining the pithy tenets of Zen with messages from other legendary pick-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps books such as Think and Grow Rich.

Yet, I think the message of this book can be boiled down into five simple steps:

Step One: Have lots of money

Step Two: Buy a successful company

Step Three: Make millions with said company

Step Four: Travel to the world's most exotic locales

Step Five: Write books about how to have a positive outlook on life

I came to this conclusion when I read the book jacket bio on Ron Rubin. It says, "Ron Rubin bought and took charge of The Republic of Tea..."

Well, gee, Ron. If I had the wherewithal to "buy and take charge" of a company, I'd do so. But I don't. And neither does 90% of the people who'd buy this book.

What I'd like to see Rubin and Gold do next time is write a practical, nuts and bolts book about how to achieve do-able goals.

This book, like Stephen R. Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People only works if you're born with a silver spoon in your mouth, or everyone you meet and work with has also read the book and is willing to play by its rules.

I enjoy a good platitude as much as the next guy. But even I -- the hopeless romantic and positive thinker that I am -- know that it takes more than a winning attitude to succeed. It takes hard work, lucky breaks and, quite often, a truckload of money.

If I ever stumble upon said truckload, I'll be sure to write a whimsical book about what I do with it.

And I, like Rubin and Gold, will likely chuckle all the way to the bank.

Finally a book that truly positions the mind for success. Written in a no-nonsense, savvy, hip style, Tiger Heart Tiger Mind takes the reader through the development of a mind set that can change the direction of your life and or your career. Don't let the Zen influence put you off. I found out that this book is part of a series of entrepreneur business, motivational guides that forward time tested teachings only as a basis for a very contemporary message. This book empowers your talent, your strengths and teaches you how to jettison weaknesses and needs to be required reading for those that are open to bettering themselves and their situation. Five stars.

This review is from: Tiger Heart, Tiger Mind: How to Empower Your Dream--A Zentrepreneur's Guide (Hardcover)
This is a great book for anyone who spends a lot of their waking hours trying to figure out how to reach their desired level of success both in business and in life. I first came across Rubin and Gold reading about them in the best selling Tom Peters book; Re-Imagine. I have read all of the duo's books now and found them to be the best at getting the point across on the how of creating the experience of success. The writing style is hip, quick, thought provoking and more importantly, motivates you to take immediate action. There are some Zen fundamentals sprinkled throughout but the book uses them to make a point rather than as a lecture. In fact the book is no New Age read at all-It is an invitation to sit down and spend some time with a couple of successful entrepreneurs who want to share the benefit of their life experiences so that you may join in on the fun of living a life of reward. I recommend that you don't pass up on the invite as parties like this don't take place very often.

This review is from: Tiger Heart, Tiger Mind: How to Empower Your Dream--A Zentrepreneur's Guide (Hardcover)
As a corporate consultant to Fortune 500 companies I have read numerous books on motivational business and life topics. That being stated, I found TIGER HEART TIGER MIND not only to be the best at forwarding a real world view of how to succeed but it is also without question a difinitive no nonsense guide to creating a difference in manifesting success. When I first discovered Rubin and Gold's unique business and life philosophies in thier previous DRAGON SPIRIT offering I became hooked on their ability to get to the marrow of the bone of how to succeed in whatever dream you may have for yourself. I now have read all of the Rubin and Gold volumes and make it a point to recommend them as mandatory reads for my clients who seek to improve their leadership skills and the quality of life of their managers, associates and customers. If you really are interested in creating a difference in the the marketplace and in your life subscribe to the power and the WOW of TIGER HEART TIGER MIND.

This review is from: Tiger Heart, Tiger Mind: How to Empower Your Dream--A Zentrepreneur's Guide (Hardcover)
As with previous versions of Mr. Golds and Mr. Rubins works, I was inspired and enjoyed the real look at todays business and individual challenges. They seem to understand and explain what others are just begining to apply inside the daily world of business. Attitude counts.

I trust there will be more books with more business insight and logic to enjoy and apply soon....
