I saw the JAZ-A18U (Chinese made one) at Walmart online for 1/2 the price so I figured why not try it since there didn’t seem to be that big of a difference between the two except price. However there is a main difference.
Both comes with non-stick rice pot, measuring cup (Asian cup is less than American cup), rice scooper, retractable cord

Chinese made – JAZ-A18U
Cooks rice well but with in 12 hours, there were some moisture build up that caused the rice to smell bad. Within 24 hours rice is still moist and tastes fine but the smell was putrefying. Vegetable steaming tray comes in addition to Japanese Made.

Japanese made – JNP-1500
Cooks rice well and keeps it moist and smell free for days. Biggest difference is the vent. It has more elaborate than Chinese made which only has few drilled holes. I do not know why they made the difference in vent design but that make all the difference in how long rice can stay in warm function smell free. It does not have vege steaming tray. Rice scooper has ridges where as Chinese one is smooth.

Verdict – I’d stay away from Chinese one. Chinese made one will do if you do not keep rice warm for more than a day, although for that function, I can get much cheaper ones that cooks rice just as well. I love rice and like having rice readily available which is why I love having warm function that will keep rice for couple days. If the Japanese one I purchased is same as one that my mom has (it’s an older model), it will keep rice for close to week without drying out or foul smell. I’ll be returning the Chinese made and keeping the Japanese made. For few bucks more there are other rice cookers with bells and whistle, but this simple model seem to keep the rice the longest.

I love this rice cooker so much, I purchased 3 more for my children. We all like this cooker. You measure the rice, measure the water, turn it on and let it cook. It has a warmer feature on it so when it is finished cooking, it keeps the rice warm. I keep this cooker full of rice at all times. The rice can be left in the cooker for up to two days before I make a new batch. The retractable cord is great for storage. I highly recommend this product to anyone that likes to cook rice but hates to do it on the stove.

This rice cooker had not been reviewed when I bought it, but I bought it anyway because all the Asian markets around here say that the Tiger brand is the best. I really wanted a cooker that could do it all..white rice, brown rice and sushi rice. I think this rice cooker does them all equally the same, but the bottom of the rice is always brown. Not burned black, but brown and crunchy. I have read elsewhere that this is welcomed by some.. but not by me. Something I do like about this cooker is that the rice is done in record time...no more than twenty minutes.

I really like brown rice so it was important for me to do ANYTHING to get a cooker to work, especially one that was smaller.

I started out with white basmati because I wanted to "give the cooker a chance" assuming it would find it easier to cook white rice. I got rice mush instead.

I tried long grain brown rice which I had soaked all day. I got brown rice mush.

I called Tiger and was told that white Basmati requires less water than other rices, and that this cooker would not cook brown rice. Well I haven't tried white basmati again yet, but I have cooked short grain brown rice several times and really like it. The trick is to soak the rice for 2 to 4 hours in advance of cooking. I like my rice a little chewy so I soak for 2 to 3 hours. Long grain brown rice is best soaked for 4 hours ahead of time.

WITH ALL RICE, MAKE SURE TO RINSE IT THOROUGHLY BEFORE COOKING.

I also like that I can make 3 cups instead of 6. Left over rice is great for breakfast with some butter, sugar and dried cherries, but you should eat the rice within a week. It will taste funny after a week in the refrigerator.

Coming from a asian that eat rice everyday. I have owned many rice cooker in my lifetime. My parents own a tiger for over 30 years. It will is still going strong. I am pretty saving savy and didn't want to spend over $50 for a rice cooler. After spending so much money on cooker after cooker. I decided I'm gonna go for what my parents been having. I'm very pleased with my order. What I love best about the cooker is rice comes out perfectly every time. Brown or white! Easy to clean... Non-stick The rice fall out with a light scrub. Never need to soak the pot ever like all the other cooker. I even got a nice one as a bridal gift which is a cusiniart brand. That one came out to be junk. Even though it look nice. It cook the rice in less then 20 min. My key secret to cooking rice taught by my mother for fluffy rice is no matter how much rice you cook when you fill it up with water after washing it. The water should be a inch above the rice for white rice. For brown rice it would be 2 inches above the water. Your rice should be perfectly cook. It a no brainer trick. At any given time you feel you think it to dry or not fluffy enough at the end of cooking time. Pour in half a cup of water, stir the rice, and hit the cook button again. This time cooking maybe less then 5 min. Without a doubt you should be very pleased!
