Adventure+Danger+Romance+Diamonds=Amazing Book,
This review is from: The Tiger of Mysore : A Story of the War with Tippo Saib (Works of G. A. Henty) (Hardcover)
The Tiger of Mysore is one of my favorite Henty books. It is the story of a young man, Dick, who is 3/4 English and 1/4 Indian. His father is reported to be killed in India, but his family knows enough to believe him a captive. Dick takes his mother to India to live with her brother, a raja, while he searches for his father while disguised as a native. Adventure and excitment follow as he takes up the profession of tiger-hunting as a cover. While at a public gathering, a huge tiger breaks loose and leaps into the Sultan's harem. Dick comes to the rescue, kills the tiger, and finds out that you can get killed for seeing the harem girls. After assuring the Sultan he only saw the tiger, he is rewarded by the Sultan and his(very wealthy)wives. Dick is also appointed a post in the palace, but escapes when asked to execute an English prisioner. He also rescues a young English girl from the palace. Dick returns to his uncle's house, drops off jewels/girl and heads off to restart his search. This time he is succesful. He returns home to England with his parents, marries the girl, and spends the rest of his days in luxury.
