Of the six courses available, Pebble Beach Golf Links, Poppy Hill, and Sawgrass Hill are exclusive to this game. Additional courses can be designed through Course Architect (the game's creation tool) or downloaded from the Internet. You can choose from 12 professional golfers (including Tiger Woods), play the game as one of its six fictional characters, and even play as the two commentators. Game modes include practice, stroke, tournament, skins game, shoot-out, match play, foursomes, fourball, and three PGA Tour season modes. Up to four players can participate on a single PC, over a local area network or on the Internet.
The game's swing can be set at classic two-click (start backswing, start swing) or three-click style (start backswing, start swing, connect with ball), but those looking for a more challenging experience will opt for TrueSwing. This new technology tracks your mouse movements to simulate the swing and requires some wrist gymnastics; it's very tricky at first, but is ultimately more rewarding.
Graphically, the game looks fantastic, with outstanding reflections, shadows, and character models. Unfortunately, the game's listed minimum requirements of a PII 400 and an 8 MB video card are very misleading; a high PIII and a 32 MB card is a more accurate assessment. While the box rightly indicates that Internet play is supported, the manual notes that EA will only support it until March 1, 2003.
Steep requirements and limited Internet play aside, this is a very complete game that looks and plays great on systems that can handle it. --Raymond M. Padilla

great game play,

The true-swing feature is great. It replicates real golf more accurately than the silly two- or three-click method. It's a little slow, but tolerable. The tournament play is nice, and being able to go through a PGA tour season makes it much more like the other great EA offerings.They should adjust the algorithms in Pro tournament play. You end up with a lot more golfers under par in at the end of a TW2002 tourney than in a real tourney. It's the best golf sim I've played...

Nice graphics, horrible game play,

I am running a very well equipped Dell. For those who have a top of the line system, Tiger Woods 2002's graphics cannot be beat. If you are running a slower system, buy TW99 .... If you enjoy having to play for hours straight before even learning how to drive the fairway, then TW2002 is for you. I put in hours upon hours of play in TW99 and expected my proficiency to turn over for this game; it did not. Putting is hellish, and putting draw and fades on the ball is just short of immpossible. The only reason this game got any stars at all is because of the graphics. I have returned mine and will revert back to TW99 or the latest version of LINKS. There is not target indicator and for the non die hard gamer this game will merely instill deep frustration.

Nice looking game, but buggy,

I have to admit I had high expectations when I bought this game. EA Sports does a great job with their games and I have never been disappointed, until now.The game does look great. The courses are spectacular. The commentary, while it does get repetitive, is a lot better than in their other games. They do a good job of reflecting what is going on in game. What I don't like is how buggy it is. A good example is the stored replays of the Best Putt. In Best Shot it works fine, but on Best Putt there is no button to exit the replay. The only way I found to get out was the 3 finger salute. I've also experienced quite a few crashes while playing the game, which I've never had happen with my other EA Sports games. Another feature I don't like is pointer arrow when you are aiming your shot. It doesn't seem to take the features of the course into consideration. It generally points to the flag, regardless of what lies between you and the flag. The tiny overhead view on the side isn't very good at telling what to expect, so I've had too many cases of driving my ball into the ocean. If I could have seen what was up ahead better, I could have compensated for that. This is a fun game when it works correctly, but the bugs are far too frustrating for me. 2115|R1ZVMRLF8VMTX2;2115|RURE41WMNXL8N;2115|R348XTMS22YJHN;
