If you are deciding between Tiger Woods 2004 or Links 2004, I will tell you the differences.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great game, but spend your $$$ on 2003
I just picked up TW Golf 2004 and think it is a great game...BUT, and a big one at that, why spend the money when 2003 is 1/2 the price and there are not that many changes.
So what is new in '04 - you can create a player with so many options, it is sickening. you will use this feature once, and never again.

If you are deciding between Tiger Woods 2004 or Links 2004, I will tell you the differences.

GAMEPLAY:
Both games are set up very nicely. Both have the great analog swing. The only problem with Tiger Woods is once you have your player stats maxed out it becomes unrealistic because your drives go 370 yards consistently, which makes the game too easy. Links, it takes awhile to max your stats, and once you do its still realistic, meaning you'll need a good drive and good second shot to make it on the Green in 2 on a par 5. As far as putting, Links has Tiger beat by a huge margain. On Links you get a nice chart layout and the analog putting feels so real. On Tiger it gives you a caddy tip and the grid really stinks. To spin the ball, Tiger still has the arcade feel where you spin the ball after its hit. On Links you choose the spin before you hit it, just like in real life.
ADVANTAGE: LINKS 2004

COURSES/GOLFERS/ITEMS(UNLOCKABLES):
Tiger Woods has a ton more courses, compared to only 9 on Links. Tiger also has a lot more PGA Golfers on the game, like Tiger, Vijay, Daly, Furyk, and more compared to Links 3 golfers. Tiger Woods has THE BEST create a golfer ever!!!! Links you choose a player model and change his clothes. In Tiger you can create your player (identical to you!) and have all kinds of unlockables to fit to him including clubs, shoes, gloves, hats, etc. There is just so much.
ADVANTAGE: TIGER WOODS by far!!

CAREER MODE:
In Links you play in a series of Tournaments to earn cash to buy attributes. In Tiger you can play through an entire "almost real" PGA Tour season with the real events, like at Kapalua (the Merceds Championship) starting in January in Hawaii. Also included are the 4 majors, just named something different. This gives Tiger a major advantage as far as replay value.
ADVANTAGE: TIGER

OVERALL:

Tiger Woods has a ton more options, courses, golfers, unlockables. The gameplay is a little more unrealistic (not like Mario Golf or Hot Shots Golf though) and the putting is not as good as Links. The create a player and career mode is awesome.

Links has the better gameplay but lacks the options and unlockables cool stuff found in Tiger. The gameplay is so much more realistic than Tigers though, and the graphics are better.

If you are looking for a game with better gameplay and don't care about the options, get Links. If you are someone who loves the all the good unlockables and true PGA Tour season play, get Tiger.

So what is new in '04 - you can create a player with so many options, it is sickening. you will use this feature once, and never again.

If you are someone that wants to open the game and play, then get 2003. If you want to mess around with designing the shape and size of your players mouth for 20 minutes- TW 2004 is for you...

I also don't understand why they took away the option for 2 people compete in the tournaments. It was such a great feature on 2003, and a quick way to earn money.

and why oh why did they not make it part of xbox live?

Overall i would say it is a great game, but i recommend you save $25 and buy TW 2003 instead of 2004.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite good, March 14, 2004
This review is from: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 (Video Game)
I must first say that the create-a-player is by far the best one I've ever seen on any video game. So if you're like me, that's a huge selling point. You can customize everything on the guy, down to their socks and bling-bling earrings.

Gameplay is really quite easy to learn and quite easy to be good at. This may be a problem for some of the purists/realists, but for people who just want to pick up the game, play and be good, it works well. Unlike real golf, the gameplay isn't frustrating!

But what is agonizingly frustrating is the putting. You get virtually no idea of what way the green is going. All you have to go by is the Caddy's Advice, who tells you to aim 2 feet left and 3 feet long. How far is a foot? I have no idea! It's usually just pure luck if you knock down a put of any distance.

I think the old "Golf" game on Nintendo had a better putting gameplay (and that was 15 years ago).

If you can get past the putting, this game is great fun. The career mode seems quite lengthy and will probably keep me entertained for hours upon hours. I'd recommend this game for my money.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this Game but not a fan of the actual!, December 17, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

The programmers at EA Sports have out done themselves: I must first say that the create-a-player is fantastic. It is fun to make your player as normal or as bizarre as you want. You can customize everything on the character, from their socks to the bling-bling.
Gameplay is really quite easy to learn. For people who just want to pick up golf,it can be good experience. Unlike real golf, the gameplay isn't frustrating!
Putting can be a challenge. Once you do it a few times, you can get the hang of it.
Your character can quickly earn money and endorsements. It lets you unlock different aspects of the game from favorite golf holes to different clothes to purchase.
FUN FUN FUN! This game is great fun. The career mode seems quite lengthy and will probably be entertaining for hours upon hours. I'd highly recommend this game. After I wear this game out, I will buy 2005.

5.0 out of 5 stars Add To Your Favorites..., July 26, 2004

This review is from: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 (Video Game)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 has its greats and it has its downers. The best thing about Tiger Woods is the create a golfer mode. It is the best out of every game where you can create a player. You can go from choosing your complexion to changing your eye set. The great create a golfer mode is why people love this game.

As for the modes, you can play a PGA Tour season, a World Tour where you face a bunch of real and fake golfers and get cash if you beat them. You can also play scenerios, where maybe you have to make a very long putt to get a better putter.

As for the gameplay, your left thumbstick is like the backswing and downswing of your club. If you swing the stick staright up and down, you will hit it straight. If you move the stick accidentally in other directions, you will hit it into the rough.

But, just like real golf, the putting is impossible. You dont take a full swing. The caddy advice says to aim it maybe 3 inches left but it is very frustrating.

Overall, Tiger Woods is a good game. With extras like getting sponsors like Nike and Adidas, you could select any club and get money. Tiger Woods 2005 will probably be better, so try that one out before anything.

3.0 out of 5 stars One Monther, May 14, 2004

This review is from: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 (Video Game)
Tiger Woods 2004 gameplay is very similar to 2003, and in that sense it is a one month game, you buy it, play it, build your golfer up and then dominate every part of the game. With in a month you can beat all portions of the game and the only thing left to tinker with is the build a golfer tool. With that said, the new course, Bethpage and Pinehurst are nice additions to the regulars of St.Andrews, Sawgrass, and Pebble Beach and the PGA season feature is nice as well. I would like to see EA in the future try to incorporate even more PGA tour courses so you could get some more real tour events. Of course the ultimate would be to have Augusta National, but I don't see that happening. Overall Tiger Woods 2004 is a solid game, just not one you will play for months on end.

The game is way too easy. It is very difficult to miss a fairway. Chip shots stop unrealistically quick. Putting simple as well. Graphics are great though. A good looking game but not realistic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Golf Game, March 3, 2004

This was given to me with my new XBox Christmas 2003. I had played the 2003 version some on my sister's XBox and the 2004 looks pretty much the same. I never got that far into the 2003 version but the 2004 offers good realism. I really like the ability to customize the players. after you get into the game some there are sponsors who offer you deals; even if you loose a game you can still make some money.

I turn off the included music and add my own. I do not think much of the song selections.

I play this game for relaxation; 90% of the other XBox games get you too tense. I keep hoping that there will bee a few more games that you can play to relax instead of going ballistic, but that does not seem to be the trend in XBox right now. The only thing you get now is shoot'em up or kick'm in the head games, not like the older Adventure & RPG games that required some thought. Also some board games for the XBox Would be nice; not like that new Monopoly junk but like the realistic ones I used to play on the Super Nintendo.

I was greatly impressed with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003. I could not wait for 2004. Well to my dismay, I found 2004 version to be 90% like the 2003 version. The competitors were pretty much the same. The designers were really lazy in that they could not even come up with new golfers or new clothes for the old golfers to wear. There are a couple new courses but nothing to write home about They used 90% of 03 then added 10% new for 04. The music in 03 is better, you can actually see the stats/yardage better on 03. They tried to add a few new items on 04 but is not worth spending money on the newer version. Stick w/ 03 and save 1/2 your money.

I just bought it, and I am addicted. The gameplay is great. With 'Gameface,' create a golfer, choosing from hundreds of customized facial features, body types, and clothes, make him/her look like yourself. Win money to buy equipment, clothes, and even special reactions for your character.
There are several different game types to play. The graphics are pretty satisfying. Choose from over 15 realistic courses.
Many people complain about the soundtrack, but I like it. It includes a variety of music, from hip hip to indie rock.
Best game I've played in a while!
