Return to TW07/08,
By

This review is from: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (Video Game)
TW10 for PSP is a return to the style of the 07 and 08 editions. Last year's 09 was for golfing purists -- the putting was difficult, there weren't any silly mini-games, and on the hard difficulty setting it was a genuine challenge. This is EZ mode by comparison -- the putting is in the style of 08 (it tells you when you're off-line and makes recommendations based on the slope), which is way too easy. The annoying confidence games are back from 08. With the return of Spyglass Hill and Bethpage Black (both great courses), the Shooting Gallery and Putting Frenzy contests, and the sponsored gear, it feels basically like a reskinned version of TW07 with easier putting. TW07 was good, but if your favorite version was 09 you're going to be unhappy. Rain has a significant impact on your play now, and the trees are more realistic than in 09 (where tree = brick wall). Westchester course is bugged -- the front and back nine are reversed, but the par ratings are for the original holes. I haven't seen what effect this has on the Tournament Challenge for this course, but it could break the challenges badly.

Had tiger 09 and it was ok but the analog option was not good. The analog has improved for this version, they have added a confidence bar which works well if you hit a bad shot the confidence goes down and it goes up for good shots this adds an extra edge. Also if you his a bad shot at certain points you will be given a mini game to improve you confidence, these also work well. The leaderboard shows you the full tournament of player which I like, I found it anoying on the XBOX360 and wii that you only saw the top 5. Great golf game!

Ah Tiger Woods. This is now my fourth copy of a Tiger woods game, and I now have it for every current generation console except for the Playstation 3. Whereas the Wii game is perhaps the most realistic, the PSP version is surprisingly thrilling and fun.
TW on the PSP plays similar to that on the Xbox - using your analog stick as a simulated "swing" - pulling down for the back swing, then thrusting it forward at the right moment to strike the ball. Making a straight shot is pretty easy. Unfortunately the draw and fade technique is nearly impossible to manage. I have spent too much time in the driving range trying to master the trick of curving a ball in the air, but it is horribly unreliable and unpredictable. This has forced my strong-hitting character to play short too many times simply because I knew I couldn't bend around that tree, or sand trap, or pond. A sadly missed feature is the club editor, featured in 2009 on the Xbox. This allowed you to "tweak" your clubs, exchanging accuracy for driving distance, spin for loft, etc. It was a great way to squeeze a few extra yards into your drive. It is missed, but not a deal breaker. In fact the only real frustration in Tiger Woods 2010 comes in the form of a chime. For reasons I haven't entirely determined, the game likes to chime at you every few seconds when another opponent - AI of course - changes rankings on the leaderboard. The chime is ridiculously loud, irritating, and seemingly determined to break your concentration. Most of the time I have to completely mute the volume just to focus on my shot. I don't know who decided to include that worthless feature into the game, but I hope they get hit by a car... Tiger 10 is as gorgeous and entertaining on the PSP as it is on any high-priced gaming console. It's absolutely perfect for getting in a few holes during your lunch break! Just mind the volume buttons. 2115|R3O96V5HCK9HC5;2115|R38PY6Z57T75E6;2115|RLX1JU82QIITY;
